Massive difference between the original game the the 2 sequels. You can tell they utilized the PS2 a bit more for Jak II.

I can recall an article I read back then, it had some info about the map in Jak II, it was bigger than the map they had in GTA (can't remember the exact GTA title, though)

I've went for the retail version. I just prefer to have a disc, and PS Store is mainly for the cheaper games for me. Eg. Flower, etc. (That sort of price range)

the price and size will decide it, if theyre all 5gb+ each yet the same price, then going for retail would be best, especially if you have space/connection issues. hopefully Sony keep an eye on how much its selling for in shops and put a price of about £20 for all three.

its still great that we'll have both options to choose from and theres probably not a huge difference in the end anyway :smileyhappy:

Jak  and  Daxter:  The  Precursor  Legacy = File size 992 MB

Jak II = File size 3.35

Jak  3 = File size 3 GB

oh thats cool, sure thatll make them a bit more tempting to download then. smaller is better afterall (so im told).

wonder how big theyd be normally un-HDfied. would be interesting to know how much bigger they get.

I don't believe they get that much bigger TBF, after all the main part of the game is still the same, but just with higher rez textures and models (sometimes).

Hoping I can afford them/fit them in as they wasn't really on my radar,  but with Twisted Metal delayed I might be able to squeze them in between SSX, Mass Effect 3 and TM when they come out. Not planed anything yet and have MGS 2 and Darksiders to finish yet as well..

Speaking of Jak & Dexter, there was an AmA on Reddit yesterday with Andy Gavin, co-creator of the series (and Crash Bandicoot).

There's a question on the HD remake way down at 4pts.

Re: Jak Trilogy - Download or Retail?

Retail - Always.

You get the whole package - Disc,booklet,Case....Usually cheaper.

If you ps3 breaks and you get a new one - You can just plonk the disc in again to play it.Instead of having to download huge files again (wouldnt be an issue,if it wasnt for SONYS DRM - But there you go).

You can also sell it on if you so wish.

Re: Jak Trilogy - Download or Retail?

Just to add to the obvious above. Half my love of gaming is buying a new game (either from a shop or online retailer), taking it out and putting it in my console. Its bloody boring waiting for a download. Then you can't admire them in your collection (the amount of unplayed/unfinished games on my HDD is horrendous because they are hidden away and not on show in my collection!) and then you feel half cheated on not having anything to hold and admire and say ''hey, look at my big collection of games.''

Re: Jak Trilogy - Download or Retail?

The current cheapest price available online is just under £25 at The hut/Zavvi so i would still buy a physical copy but i am in no rush i still have the PS2 versions.

Re: Jak Trilogy - Download or Retail?

Even if there is nothing in the price at launch you know the retailers will drop their prices relatively quickly. Unlike PSN which ''might'' see a special offer in 2 years time or might even go sky high for that matter :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Jak Trilogy - Download or Retail?

I'm quite surprised The Precursor Legacy weighs in at less than 1GB. I confess I know very little about how these things work but the game was huge and had beautiful graphics so I thought with the HD upgrade it would be a lot more. Didn't the third Sly game come in at just over 9GB? I'm looking forward to playing it again. Wasn't a huge fan of Jak 2 and 3 so it'll be a download of the first for me. Need to somehow squeeze it in between completing the MGS Collection and Driver and starting Mass Effect 3.

Re: Jak Trilogy - Download or Retail?

Size of the game world doesn't always mean that it will be a big file. Multiple languages, and sound can add to the size more from what I've heard.

With it being the first game in the series they wouldn't of been able to utilise the power of the PS2 fully (you notice games get better the more they understand how it works) and never pushed the game that much hence the size difference.

What I did find shocking regarding the size was most PS1 games were around 700MB so its not all that big a leap but it was in terms of graphics and level design from a similar type of game on the PS1.
