I kinda had the mojo forcibly taken from me with the death of my 60gb fatty (sob), I had it from launch day and on the day before U3 was released it gave up the ghost! I have since created a profile on my housemate's slim but not being able to sign in to psn and play games (even single player ones for trophy sync etc), has left me not really playing all that much.
Admittedly I tried to limit my gaming thinking that I would get my fatty repaired or buy a new slim but so far I have not gotten around to it!. So I have not played ME3 or Batman AC but just could not help myself with Skyrim or Uncharted 3! They are the only games I have really played properly since last November and I know I will prob replay them once I get my new ps3 (soon I hope)!
My dilemma now is, I really want to get Dragon's Dogma but I don't want to play through it on a console that is not mine!
Oh and I completely agree with the talk in this thread about the lack of variety in current gen games - sequels and shooter clones and film tie ins - but I remember playing on the master system and NES, then SNES and megadrive and really, if you look back they had the same types of game - shoot 'em ups, beat 'em ups, RPG's, platforms or sports.
Though back then when the game was just a cheap cash in clone (whichever category), it would get a poor review and just disappear. Having said that the industry was smaller and not as much money went into the production of titles compared to today. Still I don't really remember any malaise or frustration with gaming. Maybe today's console gen has 'never had it so good' with internet and social gaming and truly massive production values - comparable and sometimes surpassing Hollywood - so we keep expecting more and more and when we don't get it we get bored with what we DO have.
I didn't really intend for this post to be as long as it is, but as I was writing, it just got me thinking!

I'm sort of swaying towards it "Vomit" wise. I'd like to regurgitate all over that console just as Microsoft does with the PS3, with it's crappy ports. Still I'll remain optimistic that I'll see a great game before the years out.

Might be a bit late in adding this, but i've noticed this recently too. Most of this year TBH... just cant b bothered to play anything. You find the time, think, 'yeah... i'll throw that in for a bit' then 10 minutes later your like *yawn*
I was wondering if it was down to me just 'getting old', just turned 28 and thinking.. maybe this is it.. this is just what happens? But seems I am not alone! (Phew!) lol.
Still got U3 to open and play through, The Last of Us looked amazing at E3, though may as well be called U4, and other than fancying a white Vita, there didnt seem anything that great at E3. I even decided to skip the annual update of FIFA this year.
Just sick of the same old. Run n gun on MW3, kick about in FIFA, theres so much to collect in a lot of games you just think 'im never going to finish that properly..' whats the point starting lol :/
Industry feels a little stale atm, for sure, and just like the OP i find myself part distracted by my constantly on laptop, or the lure of an iPad close by when it seems every damn game is due a massive update.
Enough of the problems......... has anyone any 'cure' for this No-mojo-itis illness?

Yeah it's called Viagra... Stick that in the console to liven it up.
The one in bold I totally agree with. All the games look similar now, graphics wise.

Not really played properly for ages, i still have Uncharted 3 & Assassins Creed Revelations to play through yet and they were bought for me around christmas last year I'm also still only half way through Skyrim. lol
I must admit i'm glad to see others saying the same about no big urge for gaming, though it was a mid life crisis thing.

I've had that for a long time, several years. However I've found that I now get different things out of gaming. Whilst I don't directly enjoy a lot of games anymore. I still like those that are well designed, and particularly those that feel rewarding. Just got to find the right games, even though it can be very difficult.
In my eyes, Red Dead Redemption, Assassins Creed 2, Batman Arkham City are bad games. These are just examples of course, but yeah. These games are really very simple in design and concept, as an experienced gamer, they're just a cliche. Boring, generic cookie cutter cut games whose shallow plots are nothing but a pathetic excuse to interject consistently tedious gameplay segments.
However in contrast, games like Skyrim, Dark Souls, Street Fighter AE, Gran Turismo 5, Ghost Recon, LittleBigPlanet, now these games are sublimely technical and fresh. Their structures are relatively 'generic' I mean, a racing game is always a racing game, for example, but the technical side of things that goes behind the scenes on a game like LittleBigPlanet can be really rewarding to play around with. The vast worlds of a game like Dark Souls, technical combat, enemy design, vast variety of gameplay styles, abilities, games that allow my gameplay to impact the experience significantly just feel rewarding, and in turn I can get something enjoyable out of those games.
I can still enjoy classics like Sonic 2, of course. I mean whilst the design may be tried and true the challenge provides reward. Games like Red Dead Redemption, they provide no challenge and their plot is rarely anything but predictable, so what really is there to get from this kind of game? Nothing, not for me anyway. I remember playing Assassins Creed 2 and thinking "the best thing about this games the venecian architecture" I think that's the point I realised that I really wasn't getting much out of that one...
I don't know if anyone's like that, but that's me.
