Re: Mass Effect 3 initial thoughts

I finished ME3 on Monday night after around 30 hours of gaming. It's a sure sign that I love this game a bit too much, because I can't get the darn thing out of my head.

The music, the characters, the graphics and surroundings...all incredible.

The have made lots of handy improvements to ME3 such as weapon customisation which aids you quite considerably in battle if you get the balance right. The overall design of the game has been imrpoved, menus are now nicer to use and the levelling up process has been updated. The game has also been given a slight graphics upgrade since ME2, but it is noticeable.

As far as framerate issues go, so far I've had absolutely none. The only thing I have been getting is the game freezing between loading, particularly when I use lifts which is strange. I've had to hard reset my PS3 a few times in one session due to this.

Re: Mass Effect 3 initial thoughts

No framerate problems ?? I find this hard to believe or maybe some are more prone to seeing it than others. ITS HIDEOUS !!, every so often, usually a big brawl or even when just roaming the land the game stutters like a good un. I would be interested with what televisions you non sufferers have...e.g 50, 100,200 htz . I noticed a difference when I turned on certain smoothing effects that come with my sony W range set. I had the Mass effect 3 running on my 360 as a comparrison and it ran butter smooth on my set, Only reason i didnt keep the 360 version was in unbelievable ammount of times you have to disk swap.....crazy like

Re: Mass Effect 3 initial thoughts

I can honestly say I havent experienced any framerate issue once in about 10 hours gameplay. Actually I lie as in one cut scene the lip sync did seem slightly out but I'm talking onnly very slightly but thats it
SPLITTERS!!

Re: Mass Effect 3 initial thoughts

wow, I wasnt even going to bother mentioning the lip sync.... its non existent in my copy, shockingly poor, the lips dance to their own song....I guess either I will have to rebuy the 360 version and put up with the disk swapping madness or buy a new ps3 / tv......guess the 360 version wins this round with my setup. Actually my ps3 has been dreadfull for general gaming for ages now, I seem to recall mass effect 2 running ok though. Skyrim, Mafia 2, gta4 and now mass effect 3 are having the same stattico gaming problems, Its like the game runs in slow mo, jerks then runs smooth for a while ad infinitum. Still deffo keeping sonys machine even if it's just for streaming media. If anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong, i would gladly be up for messing with settings ??

'the game runs in slow mo, jerks then runs smooth for a while ad infinitum.'

i had this experience with a game where there was some text, in the game menu that was clearly linked online. i lost my connection while playing the single player and i experienced what you said. at the moment i didn't know that i lost my connection and thought the ps3 was broken. i turned off the ps3 then i noticed i couldn't connect to the psn, and started up the game again, this time everything was fine. so i guess error can happen with some games if your online connection crap out, even in single player. other reason of this jerkiness can be your ps3 hd need a defragmentation, or your blu-ray disc player is not reading the disc correct and need to be replaced, or just a bad game disc.....

Re: Mass Effect 3 initial thoughts

ah cheers RONNYNS, food for thought. I have virgin 50 mb connection that has been near on faultless for ages now but It could be worth experimenting with settings (just in case). Replacing the disk seems the logical answer atm as if some people really are seeing no problems I am it could well be the case. Is there an install feature on mass effect3 that I have yet to spot ?? seems crazy with a game of this size is having to stream all that data off a slow reading bluray drive, The 360 version did happen to be installed on mine and as I said it ran beautifully so would seem an install option on the Ps3 would be benificial. cheers anyways man

Don't agree with adding A newbe mode to this game. Would have been better just to release a DVD with All the cut scenes pasted together. If you die on casual setting. You realy Should not have got the game, Shame bioware gave in to the rental/casual gamer market...

The story for ME1 doesn't interest me whatsoever and I'll take my beginning from ME2 and see how it all pans out.  ALL of my crew survived (at least that's what I remember)

That's a shame,as it has a great story and the best bad guy of the series

he made the Illusive Man look like your typical Bond Villain(sat in a chair with too much money)

Re: Mass Effect 3 initial thoughts

hmmm, just typed in "mass effect 3 ps3 framerate" into google. Seems I am not alone as it's been reported by Gamespot, Digital spy, Gamerzines, N4G, Strategy informer, Game FAQS and many more...so I guess my copy is the same as theirs...big mistake giving the whole of the gaming press faulty copies, Doesnt really make good business sense from Bioware.

Re: Mass Effect 3 initial thoughts

after seeing this video in this link, it must be some sloppy coding on the ps3... dropping under 20fps, this was horrible to watch and must be even worse to play. i am not buying this game for sure.
