He has done really well to be fair. It's lasted a long time, maybe it's worth a phone call to Sony if it did pack up during an update.
Hi,
He phoned Sony and they said that the update did not cause his failure, he is not having none of it, it died as it was restarting after the update, he will buy a new Ps3 asap, but this has happened so many times there has to be a connection somewhere, although it will never be proven.

you are allowed an opinion moomoo
but i do disagree , its coincidence nothing more nothing less , if sony were actually killing off the old phats and someone could prove it then sony as a company would be finished end of story
in this day and age there are plenty of very clever people when it comes to computers and im sure someone could strip down the update and find something that was to blame for the console bricking but only if said something was there in the first place and it aint
the 60gb was meant to be the premium flagship model , unfortunatley sony used cheap components in the build and they started breaking , some quicker than others , i know plenty of people who still have the 60 gb models running without a hitch mines included , its just your donald duck when it pops

Hi, I wasn't suggesting that Sony was killing the machines on purpose but that the older models can't cope with the latest updates, I agree with what you have said, but I think that Sony know what caused these failures but as you say if someone could prove this they would be in big trouble.

If that was the case then all PHAT ps3's would be effected, my 80GB fine touch wood.

its sad for two reasons
1 it died
2 people have moved to the position where they accept the 60G fat will die, this is bad to continue to let Sony get away with this. The dam thing was nearly £500 at launch. What other electronics do you pay for where you accept it will die.
Surely a group can bring a class action against them

Oh and at what point does a coincidence become so regular that it is no longer a coincidence ?
