Memory

Apologies if there's s similar topic elsewhere that i haven't seen. Anyway, I was wondering if it was possible to add more memory to the PS3? Reason I ask is that I was going to install Heavy Rain but a message came up saying there isn't enough space. I have the older 40gb model so i'm assuming the memory would have to be an external drive? Or would I just have to get a new PS3? Sorry for sounding completely dumb - I don't have a clue!

Re: Memory

You could buy a new hard drive & put it in your ps3. bit you'll have to save your old data on an external hard drive them move it to your newly installed hard drive.

Re: Memory

Cheers for that - much appreciated.  Can anyone recommend a decent hard drive?  I'll probably take a trip down the PC World tomorrow - want to get it sorted ASAP.

Take it an externnal hard drive can't be used for installing games on and only used for back up?

Also, when backing up, does it back up EVERYTHING on the hard drive including another user's game save file/data? (me and my brother use the same PS3.)

One of these would be perfect

Make sure you get one with the same specification.

And yes, it backs up everything!

If you do decide to upgrade your PS3 HDD (best thing I did for my PS3), make sure you buy some decent precision screw drivers.
The screws that hold the existing HDD to the caddy are made from butter & screwed in by The Hulk !!
If you don't use a good screw driver, you will 'round' the screws & may not be able to get them out.

I cannot express enough how important that is.
Honestly.

Is a brilliant deal, as mentioned before.
Should be enough for you. :smileywink:

Here's a good video guide to how easy it is >

Re: Memory

Just a quick note, memory is not hard drive space, it is RAM

Re: Memory

Cheers for all that - have ordered the 320 gb hard drive.

Can anyone recommend an external hard drive thats compatable with the PS3 or one thats easy to format to FAT32?  I had this in mind: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/9752949/Seagate-Expansion-500GB-External-USB-Desktop-Hard-Drive/Produc... but I don't have a clue when it comes to formatting something to FAT 32!
