Microphone level will only let me choose 3

I thought after todays update the PS3 would allow you to choose microphone levels 1-5 with the sony 7.1 surround headset? instead i can only choose off or level 3. Am i doing something wrong? I have both input and output set to wireless stereo headset

[ Edited ]

Re-read the update details. the key word is SIDETONE not MIC volume.

On other headset this is called vocal feedback option.

It stops PEOPLE SHOUTING AS they can here there own vocal levels

PS Its Virtual 7.1 sound every one else. to cheap a headset for real 7.1 speakers.

If it's like the standard single ear headset it's locked at level 3 in HQ mode. If you turn HQ mode off you should be able to change volume settings at a risk of performance quality.

Re: Microphone level will only let me choose 3

Slight correction to monts post.

For the BT headset

You have to pair in BT mode and not USB mode then you can set the BT mono head set to adjust able mic.

This does not work with the RF headset as its RF only. Not BT.

Re: Microphone level will only let me choose 3

No worries ive found the answer:

For people having problem finding the “Sidetone” option go to: (Accessory Settings) > [Audio Device Settings], the option is somewhat hided, you have to select your Wireless Stereo Headset and then a option will show up, there you press “TRIANGLE” to make a sidebar appear with the “Sidetone” option you want. Turn that damn thing to OFF and you will be ready to enjoy your headset once again, the way it should be

Re: Microphone level will only let me choose 3

Actualy NO the PS3 headset is NOT the norm.

Most logitech, Turtle beach and Astro Gaming headsets have.....

Side tone, Vocal feedback, Vocal monitoring, as they call it.

This is because they work so well that the Users Can't hear the out side world at all with game audio. Thats what they were designed to do.

It may be a flaw in the PS3 head set that they allow so much out side sound back in to your ears so you may not need it.

If thats the case, then yep, you can now alter or disable it.

But side tone is the norm for gaming headsets.

What has not been covered yet is, "if" the Sidetone Mutes when you mute the Mic now, that was a bug SCE did add which is not in other headsets as this showed that the Mute Is Firmware based over ride not on the Headset controll like other headsets...

I prefer hearing the outside world when im gaming anyway at least i can react to the madman coming up the stairs with a chainsaw and dive out of the window before he massacres me and my family
