I have recently decided to purchase another PS3 to have in my bedroom, as I am lazy, well not really I work long hours and sometimes love to watch films on netflix as well as play some of the PSN games I have.

I purchased it today, and the model is a 60GB CECHC03 model. I switched it on with no issues, and asked to update the software which was fine, after going through the setup speil that was. While it was downloading the Software i slowly started to hear the internal fan spool up faster and faster. Near the end of the software update it was like the fan was at full speed. I felt at the vent behind the unit and was warm air coming out, but the room was cool, and it was placed flat with nothing near it. so othing blocking the vents. I also noticed a previous repair was done on the console as it had a warranty sticker on it. The PS3 is not connected to an HDMI source and I feel the XMB is slightly slower than what my other PS3 is.

Now I also have an 80GB model, CECHEK03 model which I purchased in 2008, It has been in constant use and sometimes on for weeks at a time, It is very quiet and I cant hear the fan at all on it, unless I stick my ear up to it. But I have never had one issue with it. That also includes playing games like GT5, F1, Call of Duty

Is can this be normal for the PS3 to have the fan speeding this much on this model? Last thing I want is a  £120 down the toilet.

It's probably been fixed before for the yellow light failure - I wouldn't imagine it will last much longer.

If I where you I would take it back to where ever you got it from and get a refund or buy a slim.

You bought a 60GB fatty for £120?

You can buy a brand new slim for about another £40.

I was thinking about a brand new one but the cheapest I found was £200, but for what I was expecting to use it for, I was happy to just get an older model for watching DVD's ect, plus the 60GB plays PS2 games which I wanted to do for a while.

I am not happy with the fan issue, so I will be taking it back tomorrow and wanting a replacement, they are unlikely to give me a refund unless they have nothing in stock.

Yea, take it back, that was a bad move you made there.

Could last for years but the chances are it wont.

Why not buy a slim PS3 and slim PS2? That is what I did the PS2 slim is so small am sure you could find a place for it. PS2 slim consoles can be had for around £15-£20 now have a look on the Cash Generator website that is where I got mine from.

I would check your local supermarkets 160 GB slims have been selling for around £150 recently.

Take it back ASAP. Don't buy 60GB consoles full stop, nevermind second hand. A nice slim will do
