@ logicuntowisdom - if you felt the PS3 wasn't fit for purpose why didn't you take it back; if on the other hand it's fit for purpose why are you moaning?

Unassailable logic - I'm sure Spock would be proud of you!
Let me make my position absolutely clear, as I think like yourself, some people are getting things a little blurred around the edges!
The playstation as a games console we DO find fit for purpose, but as others have agreed with me on here, if you are going to include a certain functionality, then very simply it should just WORK.
The PS3 browser to a large extent & it's getting worse, doesn't work, so therefore it is not fit for purpose.
I do not hold at all with this train of thought, being as it's not the PS3's primary function, that Sony should in some perverse way be EXCUSED from making it work properly. Certainly not at the price you have to pay for one. I didn't get it out of Christmas cracker, it wasn't cheap, so why should I excuse ANY aspect of it's

Original thread is most certainly not original.

Anybody else sick to death of these posts?

functionality from working properly.

The dangerous part, is that it's all tied in with the threat that's posed to customers/general public.

The prevailing & very lazy logic imo is apparently, that because it's a games console & not for example the computerised system in a say a commercial jet or any other computerised system for that matter, that if it failed & will not harm/kill you, then it is not necessary to make it work efficiently i.e. that is with redundancy systems to backup when sod's law kicks in &/or said system is not maintained properly.

This is a very, very dangerous way to think, simply because of SOD'S LAW and the fact that computerised systems are getting ever more complicated and becoming more and more integrated with each other.

One day, in the not to distant future, something that was perceived to be as harmless as a games console, because of this mass integration is going to cascade failure into something that is not so harmless & is important, vital

and potentially life threatening!

By way of example, I was once flying Virgin to and from the States, both times Jumbo 747's (and to answer someone else's reply - no I'm not American - what an absolutely horrible notion!) and both way's the inflight entertainment consoles on the back of the seat malfunctioned completely!

No I didn't plummet into the sea either way (infact, on the outward bound journey I managed to get upgraded to 1st class because of it), but my point is that unless we start having 'exemplary build-codes' for computerised systems, because of this ever greater dependancy & especially because of integration - then someone or a great many people may indeed be hurt or killed because of one system's seemingly total lack of connection to another!

Do you know for example USAF F22 RAPTOR pilots have been refusing to fly their jets recently, because they have been reporting feeling sick through oxygen deprevation and as yet no one knows the reason why?

This is NOW - not the near future!

Yawn

Sell

Buy a PC

Any intelligent person would do that.

Below is a Signature

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?
