Online Device Management

[ Edited ]

OK, can someone explain this all to me please, as it seems the current system is a bit disjointed.

I have added all my PS3/PSP systems via the Sony portal (https://secure.eu.playstation.com/psn/mypsn/account/), but if I need to deactivate a particular system online, I need to go via the SEN portal - In itself, not an issue. However, what IS an issue is the p*iss-poor way the SEN system presents your PS3 details.

The Sony site indicates a system's serial number, thus allowing you to distinguish between units if you happen to own more than one. The SEN system just tells you 'My PS3 System 1', 'My PS3 System 2', etc. Not a lot of good telling one from another there if you can't remember the exact order of purchase (assuming that is indeed the sorting order SEN has chosen to use).

Seeing there is no apparent way to deactivate a system on the Sony site (just to 'remove' details, which isn't the same thing), or to tell them apart on the SEN side, this does seem kinda half-arsed to me, and potentially completely useless.

Anyone agree / disagree / have a solution?

It is if you buy 2 at the same time. And what you are saying I even guessed at if you'd read my post.
I agree it's simplicity itself for those of you with a single PS3, but - as per my original post - I am not one of those people.

Any other smarta*se ideas other than 'Why not write PS3 1 and PS3 2 on em', and I really hope you're not even thinking of suggesting that.

Re: Online Device Management

Write PS3 1 on one of them and 2 on the other, you won't get confused then.

Re: Online Device Management

It is a bit **** that there's no easy way to tell which console is which. But it makes no real diferance anyway as you can't deactivate just one console.

Re: Online Device Management

On SEN you can. Anyway, surely that's the whole point, to enable deactivation if a PS3 goes belly-up.
You're not deactivating your PSN profile, just the Game/Movie allowance attached to a specific system unit.

Video unlimited use is Tied to 1 PS3 system and you can't reset that online. It requires Vocal record of deactivation via phone call. (not SCE rules, required by movie studios)

Music Unlimited Is not tied to any system as its Linked to PSN ID so does not need deletion ever.

When you move to PSN account section of the SEN site, you get the game section to show up.

The web page the OP is viewing is the remains of Music and Video unlimited activated systems page.

NOT PSNs activation page...

You have to go into SEN/PSN account management page labled "account".

https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/cam/devices/device-media-list.action

Only there will you see the number of PSN devices listed.

The SEN system DELETEs games activation from all of them.

So telling them apart DOES NOT matter as It whipes them all in one shot.

Thats what it was designed to do. NOTHING ELSE.

You can only use the SEN system once every 6 months to erase them all.

With in that 6 months window again and you will still be required to Phone CS.

You then reactivate the current systems you are using for games on the actual PS3s...

It was only added due to the T&C change from 5 to 2 units for games, No other changes where made to the T&C.

Of course this was all explained ages ago when the T&C was changed.

Re: Online Device Management

You couldn't last week. Not for games anyway, I've not tried for movies.
The option is there but if you click it it just tells you to do it on the console.

It may have changed since last week.

Re: Online Device Management

Reading new T&C's? You must be kidding!

So, if I get a PS3 stolen, or it suffers a YLoD, the only way to deactivate that particular unit is by a phone call to Sony?
