Why not make the entire console FULL PROOF. sony are u listening to me?
I have the ultimate security measure. Just get rid of the ENTIRE xmb. This way the console won't be used for video content coming under copyright law, music, photos, harrassment and weaknesses through psn and friends list, no chance in HELL of stumbling upon something online, because there will be no browser.
By your logic, they should remove the "game" feature as it's probably the most vulnerable and buggy part of the PS3. Heaven forbid if some hackers figure out how to install homebrew software using the saved game data or something.

The only argument I have, and the only argument I need is it was a feature that was part of the original design spec of a device I laid $700 down on. It's a feature that I bought and paid for. It's a feature I use.
Sony have no right to remove it, I give Sony no permission to remove it.
You can argue that I have a choice - in which case I argue that Sony would then be restricting another feature of the device that I bought and paid for.
Either way, Sony are wrong.
I can't believe how many people are content to roll over and have parts removed from their console - it's not a worry for you slim users, you bought and paid for your console knowing full well there was no Other OS, and you got it at a significant discount. I PAID FOR OTHER OS!

So who are you guys going to hold accountable? ... seeing as you are presumably quoting Australian Laws and Acts, I would assume you'll be taking your civil law actions against Sony Australia? Better book those plane tickets to Japan instead, because like Y2010K this is a global issue...

Well, you smart people, they control yours too. Where do you buy your groceries? Where do you buy your fuel? Who provides you with internet? Who manufactures your fridge? Who built your house?
Unless you're living in the middle of freakin' nowhere and create everything you need by yourself, corporations will rule your life. Get used to it, as it's not going to change any time soon.
So you just give up? Are you empolyed by Sony or something? There are industry watchdogs and government agencies like ACCC that would protect your rights as a consumer without you personally sueing them. Why are you so afraid to raise your voice? We didn't do anything wrong. It's Sony who are breaking the State and Federal law if they remove the features.
I could grow my own vegetables. I could make fuel out of canola. I could even build my own ***** house! Or I could just go down the store and buy their products if it's cheaper or requires less effort. What's your point?
Corporations don't rule your life. You rule your life. I don't remember corporations going around and kill anyone just because you don't buy their product. That's just wrong.
Think whatyou want, but there are corporations that you simply can not avoid.
Also, I'm not trying to fight any corporations. Where's the point in that? They offer services that would have been unimaginable 50 years ago. Also, there's no need to raise my voice if I'm smart and know what I'm buying, accepting all the ups and downs that come with the product. Nothing will be perfect, and these things happen. LEarn from your mistakes and buy something truly fit for your job next time. Don't try buy a jack of all trades.

My opinion on this is divided. As I've said in the other thread, I use the Other OS feature on occasion, but I don't consider the feature a "primary" function of the console, nor was it a selling point for me when I purchased the PS3, and find it difficult to understand why anyone else would have been sold on it as a feature alone.
Having said that, here's a hypothetical (suspend your belief and indulge me):
If Sony came out and said, "We're removing the Other OS feature because we have found it gives more workable RAM for games, meaning that we can produce better games for the console". What would the reaction be from consumers then?
I know it's not the reason, but I'm interested in the responses from the alleged 1%.

Easy..
Decline the license for you to use the updated software for your console.
SOOOLLLVVEEDDD!!!!
that way you not ONLY deny sony permission to remove the feature, you also get what you want.
If youre a windows user(which you clearly must be) most updates for the operating system dont even need your confirmation to install. Most updates just install automatically.
Every update to the PS3 OS asks you whether you want to update the system or not.
Its an agreement that you accept for Sony to update your console if you decline the update isnt installed.
The software would never be removed prior to the update.
If you dont agree to it, then they cant remove it. Simple.

Whether or not the system is limited, you can still do that.

Solution:
Buy a second PS3 and go online with your new slim ![]()

What if Sony decided to keep the "Other OS" option even after it came to light that that the PS3 could be hacked by it.
At first the 1% of users who use "Other OS" would rejoice and cheer, the rest of us would probably say "Meh, whatever".
But then a particualy skilled hacker gets into the PSN and shuts it down. We all now know what the result of that would be after the leap year incident, No PSN, No Trophys and restricted game access if at all.
Then 99% of users blames Sony for NOT doing somthing earlier.
When weighing up the options, regardless of local laws, Sony would be mad not to remove the "Other OS" option if the Hacking story is true.
I do feel sorry for those who legitamitly use Linux for computing but you can not blame Sony for wanting to protect thier product so 99% of its users will continue to have uniterupted access.
Yes, Sony is a company in the business of making money but there is no profit in taking this action. Its a simple act of self preservation.
If you want to get angry and blame someone, look no further than the "Hackers", without them there would bo no problem.
Cheers.
Great post. My sentiments exactly. Sony have every legal right to protect their interests, and while it's an unfortunate inconvenience to the minority at the moment, better that than inconvenience the majority in a few months time.
