Re: Other OS removed in next update?

Hey can someone who has already installed this update please tell me if it asks you to reallocate the otherOS partition at any stage? I really want to play online but I don't want to be left with wasted hard drive space.

Re: Other OS removed in next update?

It didn't for me - but I didn't have mine partitioned anyway.

Re: Other OS removed in next update?

I knew this would happen. That people have already got a work around for psn shows that the game is on. This isn't the end. It's the beginning of Sony's worries.
They have marked themselves now and thrown down the gauntlet.

They have given up whatever control they might've had with this.

The "workaround" for signing in without updating has been around since firmware 2.70.  And you really have to jump through hoops every time you sign in.  Not sure I'm that attached to the Other OS function to put up with doing that everytime.

I was not attacking you (unless you are a game hacker).

In short, If Sony does nothing we may loose the PSN and access to most games.  Its a no brainer.

But I do feel compelled to reply to some points you have made.

1)  Thank Hackers, you are kidding right?  To cause a problem, then charge a fee from the victim to fix the problem is extortion at best.   Just imagine for a moment how cheap Games and Music would be and how fast the Internet would run without the influence of Hackers.

2)  I do volunteer work for sick and disadvantaged people, raised over $20,000 for Variety and have helped out at Lifeline.

Just because you use a different operating system don't, and I repeat DON'T call your self a Minority and try to use phrases like "Minority groups are not important to you?".  In doing so you have offended me and in my eyes, killed any argument you may have had.

I agree that Sony must do something to retain the developer support, but not at the expense of the consumer rights. They could have just patched the Other OS if it was causing the problem. Regarding your other points:
1) Hackers do not charge fees. Greedy buisnessmen do. Yeah, just imagine how cheap games, music and the internet would be if there were no monopolistic corporates and cartels.
2) Minority groups don't just include sick and disadvantaged people. It could be based on race, gender, age, social background, etc. Just because you worked with some of them doesn't make you understand how they feel. Technically, 1% of PS3 users (is this even correct?) who have Linux is still a minority group and you have offended them.

***** off man, I paid for my playstation, i paid for this feature, and I'll be damned if I'm giving it up without a fight.

In fact, I paid for both the other os feature, and the ability to play blu-ray movies, and games. I have since paid for and bought some PSN games - which I now can't play because I refuse to give up a feature I paid for.

I'm working on my letter to Sony now, I've already lodged a complaint with the ACCC and The Office of Fair Trading, along with plenty others.

Look, you know if it comes down to it, there's more than enough talent outside of sony to gut it and make their own firmware - and the best bit is, that's legal - why? Because they OWN the hardware and no licencing agreement, shrink wrapped eula, or BS TOS can change that.

Re: Other OS removed in next update?

Time to put my personal weight into this. I have been pretty offended at how people have just completely seemed to think that there's no importance or weight to Linux just disappearing like this whatsoever. Why use it on a ps3? just get a computer? it runs slow anyway. whats the use. bla bla bla. I live with my partner, we both attend uni. As such we're students and not made of money. Between the 2 of us we had a laptop, and the ps3 with linux. With our workloads we needed to do uni work at the sametime.

We have sweet f all to buy another desktop/laptop right now. So we're in a real bind. This is why I've been so Poed about all this. The idea that linux on the ps3 was useless is just UTTER CRAP.
