If the trophy jingle can make me smile, I want the level advancement to make me punch the air... maybe a little video sequence once you return to the xmb after quitting the game...

Level 1
Definitely agree. The whole leveling up using your trophies is what really sets it apart from other arbitrary gaming milestones out there, so they really need to drive that home with something much like you're saying.
Even a message in the corner saying "Congratulations: Level 9 Unlocked" would be nice.

So out of the 2000 points i need to get from level 7 to level 8, i have got 1020 (7020 - 6000 = 1020) points
1020/2000 * 100 = 51
So i am 51% of the way to level 8

Kind of, but then they progress on a curve then lines with varying steepnesses. You'll understand this if you look at the second list i posted with e.g. +8000 in brackets, meaning that you need 8000 more points to reach the next level.
So e.g. from levels 1 - 6, you need ever increasing points to reach the next level.
From levels 6-12 you need 2000 points to reach the next level. So the difference betweem level 6 to 7 and level 11-12 is the same.
From levels 12 to at least level 17 you need 8000 points to reach the next level. So again the difference between level 12 and 13 is the same as the difference between levels 16 and 17
Here, i made you a graph, so from level 1-6 it's a curve, level 6-12 it's a straight line, level 12-17 is also a straight line but it is more steep.
