BURNOUT PARADISE - EA GAME - on PS3
Just put the game disk into drive after not playing for some time ...
and I got the message ...
you have an updated version of software to down load. So downloaded.
After downloading I went to play the game
and all the game works fine except I cannot STEER VEHICLE.
I then tried with hand controller plugged in to usb plug
and then with hand controller not plugged in ... wireless.
Same no steering control.
I then tried two different hand controllers ... Same no steering control.
I closed down and restarted PS3 player.
Reinserted the game disk and tried again.
SAME ... all else is fine but CANNOT STEER vehicle.
I inserted a disk from two another car racing games ...
thinking maybe it still maybe the hand controller.
With the two other car racing games ...
STEERING WORKS FINE on those ... NO PROBLEM.
Can you advise or EA GAME to fix this
and to send update with the steering problem fixed.

No one can advise EA about anything from the Sony forum but I see you have already posted on the EA forum. Good luck with that.
What number is shown on your controller?
Hint
You can see the currently assigned controller number above the port indicator on top of the controller. For a number between five and seven, the added total of the numbers above the lit indicators is the controller number.

(note: ripped off from The Manual)

It is not a controller issue.
As stated previously
I inserted a disk from two another car racing games ...
thinking maybe it still maybe the hand controller.
With the two other car racing games ...
STEERING WORKS FINE on those ... NO PROBLEM.
I am going to try ... reinstalling the game data.
The game data may need to be deleted and reinstalled to resolve your issue. The game data can be deleted by going to Game > Game Data Utility. Highlight the Burnout Paradise folder and press triangle to bring up the options menu, and then select Delete. Once the data has been deleted re-insert the game to re-install the game and re-download any game patches/updates.
Will post result for others who may have problem.

I can't remember if you can remap the steering controls as widely on Burnout like you can in Wipeout HD, but I'd at least check that some weird streering control configuration hasn't occured over the default.
Just try remapping the steering controls to see if that has any effect to the problem you are having.

Reinstalling the game data has worked and all is fine. Steering back to normal.
Unfortunatly this means I have lost all progress from the old game data and have to start from scratch to get back the cars, trophies etc I had in the previous data.
I reconmend to EA games if they see this post that should have a look at this problem as it seems for numerous other posts that this is a serious problem.
Also from reading numerous other posts not just on this forum but also on many other forums, including EA Games forum, it is caused when you get the message to "update the Game information or software".
As per my previous post.
I got the message ...
You have an updated version of software to down load when i inserted the game disk to play the game.
This was for the game, not the PS3 console.
Thinking it was the controller ... I inserted two other racing games and the controller worked perfectly with those.
As it worked steering worked fine prior to the download update, this leds me to believe it was the update that has caused the problem.
