PS3 Backup

Hello everyone, I have 2 questions to ask help with please.

I apologize if this seems a long description but wanted to include everything to get the right answers.

Firstly, I bought a new PS3-360 and an external usb hard-drive (FAT32 format) to do monthly backups regularly of my new PS3-360. I have downloaded all the games I have bought online and all the trial games with the extra download to make the trial games full versions from the PS3 store on to my new PS3. The games I downloaded are on the PS3-360 waiting for me to do the backup.

My question here is, Do I need to install all the games on my new PS3-360 before doing the backup? The games are not installed on the PS3 yet, they are only downloaded on to it. I have however run the extra downloads you get to make a trial game the full version.

Secondly, my 15 month old PS3-280 has started to freeze up when ever I go into home, after being in there for about 20 minutes. Each time I have cleared the cache, logged off and logged back on ect, but it is still happening. All the games on this 15 month old PS3-280 are ok, but this freezing business happens only when I go into to PSN home, it freezes and I can't do anything except turn off the machine using the button. (horror) My PS3-280 has 30GB of free space.

My question here is, If the PS3-280 system is corrupted, it only seems to be when I am in PSN home, would deleting PSN home and reinstalling PSN home fix this freezing issue when I am in home? Or Even though all the played games and progress seem ok, if the system is corrupted would this be everything on the system?

I thought about backing up all the data from the 15 month old PS3 to an external and reformatting the 15 month old PS3-280 and then putting the stuff back on to the 15 month old unit, but my concern is, if the system is corrupted wouldn't I be backing up corrupted files?

Again sorry for the long message, hope someone can give me some advice on these issues please.

Thank you for reading.

Re: PS3 Backup

about the PS home problem, i would try deleleting the Home app, and then redownload it, sounds like its the programe thats playing up and making it lock the ps3 up.

for the first question, im sure u would have to install the games on the new ps3 to have a usable backup file (not 100% sure on it, wait for a mod to comferm it).

hope that helps. but befor i finnish, after downloading a trial game from the PSN (like BF3) i would have thort you would have redownload the game agen to play it, unless im thinking of a something compleatly diffent to what your saying about the "get to make a trial game the full version."

Re: PS3 Backup

You can't back up DLC content onto an external HDD. If anything goes wrong with the console and you lose this content, simply log into the same existing account and download the game again from the Store ( Free of charge of course)

Regarding freezing during PS Home...... perhaps just don't use PS Home? If the console functions fine in other aspects, I'd just endeavour through it and if you really can't give up PS Home, play it on the other console....

Re: PS3 Backup

Thank you for your reply.

I thought it maybe the home application too as I played games last night with no problems at all.

Crash987 the trial games to make full versions you are right, I downloaded the trial games but not installed them - after downloading they sit in the games folder to be installed but when you download the bit to make it full it automatically installs it's self after the download.

So I can delete the home app and redownload it Crash987? After deleting the app what and where is it for re-downloading please?

Thanks

Re: PS3 Backup

Thank you for your reply Jack.

You answered my question about the DLC content.

About the PS Home freezing. My husband and I are in our senior years Jack, we go into home to play the multiple player PS home games together. The new PS3 is for him to use and I was going to keep using the older ps3. So for us to only have PS home working on one machine we wouldn't be able to play together in PS home, but thank you for your reply on the DLC, it is much appreciated.

Re: PS3 Backup

if you move the PS Home programe (under Playstation network tab), press the triangle butten then select delete to delete it. after that just press X on the PS Home icon and it will ask you if you would like to download the programe, say yes and it will start downloading the programe

Re: PS3 Backup

Thank you very much crash987 you have been very helpful. I will do this to the Home app and see if it helps, I am presuming it will as playing games again today everything with the games is fine. Will let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Solved Re: PS3 Backup

Hello just a note to let you know I deleted the Home app and re-installed it as advised by crash987. All seems to be working fine now in Home without any freezing.

Thank you for your help.

cheers
