Hey, Skyrim crashed my ps3 and I wanted to know that if I buy a new hard drive (500gb) and pull out the old one and throw in the new one, will it be like buying a new ps3 from the shop?

Cause my console goes into 'restore' mode, gets to 12% then freezes I wait an hour and its done and the console auto switches off...i start it up again and the same thing happens restore mode > 12% > freeze > 1hr wait > complete > auto switch off.

I started the console in SAFE mode and tried to access the hard drive and it said it is in-accessible.

What im saying is that can I buy a new hard drive then throw it in and the ps3 will start up like normal and the XMB will work and everything? (there's no point in backing up Cause my saves are all gone anyway)

please someone reply I want to play skyrim and get kingdoms of amalur reckoning.

It should be fine, but before doing so you will need to update the console with the current firmware via the safe mode, if possible. You can then put in the new HDD and install the same firmware update. Both HDD's need to be running the same firmware.

what do you mean by BOTH HDD's? my old one isnt working i cant access it. and thanks for your help dude. (about the update firmware)

Okay, i checked for update data and no later versions where found. so now i have to get my HDD and throw her in and update her? (through safe mode or just normal)

When you put in the new HDD, access the safe mode and choose option 6. You will need the latest firmware on a storage media device.

What are you doing to your consoles? Murder? I'm still on my first PS3 and I use it all the time with no problems.
