PS3 Problems

I have been having a few problems with my PS3 and was wondering if anyone could confirm my suspicions that it is just needing a new HDD.

When I install any game it takes upwards of two hours to install, when I play any game installed on the HDD it crashes or when I am finished playing the PS3 won't turn off, when I turn it back on it want's to reformat the HDD. The XMB is slow as a week in the jail, really laggy, sometimes freezes, sometimes locks up the whole system.

I can watch Blu rays and also access content on my external HDD fine which leads me to think the HDD is on its way out, I have tried reformatting it several times in the last few weeks but after an increasingly shorter amount of time it goes back to operating as outlined above.

Sorry for the late reply I tried yesterday but couldnt get to log in screen

Boot your PS3 in safe mode. Click http://faq.en.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4545 for more info. Go through the options there and see if any helps you.

Re: PS3 Problems

Do the repiar as suggested and if it still crashes then yes its your HD which needs replacing. From what you have said it does sound like its on the way out bud. Hope you manage to get it sorted asap

Re: PS3 Problems

If you have a laptop. you could always stick the PS3 HDD into it and run one of HDD diagnostic softwares from this page:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/tophddiag.htm

Seagate Seatools can identify all kinds of HDD problems that most disk checking software will miss.

But I'm guessing you're not that bothered now you've ordered a new HDD. Good luck with it anyway!

Re: PS3 Problems

Cheers, yeah it has been wonky for a while so a new one is needed, plus I am not paying for the new HDD so that works out well enough!

Usually when an HDD starts to fail there isn't much coming back from it so I will just cut my losses, at least now I will have more storage!
