Its normal. Its all to do with the content index on the disc. Depending on the devs, the index list will be different for every game. An example would be the game Folklore. Its index runs along in a pretty constant manor, imagine the Alphabet. With Folklore the index of the disc reading goes in order from A to Z. Compare this to FIFA 09 and you have a whole new running disjointed order. In tern, you will find FIFA 09 runs the laser alot more, changing its location rapidly, making the sound from the drive very noticeable.

Just to confirm its doing it intermittently on some games. Midnight club LA for example, i'll load it up and it all works fine. I'll load it another time and it starts thrashing the HD and you get lots of BD seek noise for several minutes. Even if you start the game it still continues, i'm sure its not normal.

Unfortunately i dont have that game so maybe someone could compare with you whilst playing the same game. My drive is noisy. You can even hear it turn the drive off when its finished reading the disc, eg i quit game leave the disc in the drive while on XMB.

When you insert a BD with high graphics suck as UNCHARTED it makes noise but when you insert other game like fifa,sonic,motorstorm etc. It does not make noise, If u think am lying try it and see.

It's the game, not the PS3.

The first Motorstorm made one heck of a racket, I was almost afraid to play it it made the BR drive work so hard just playing the intro's.

And what exactly is a "thrashing HD" ? A HD reads and writes, it's not some sort of posessed fish trying to escape from your PS3 !

Being a bit melodramatic here I think ?
