I know this is a little late in the conversation, but I have a new 320gb slim (one of the CECH 2500 ones) and it makes similar noises - when no disc is inserted then it is next to silent, but as soon as any disc goes in, you can hear the disc drive, and when loading FIFA it makes noises like it's loading up something (which isn't strange, but it certainly is noisier than my old fat 40gb PS3.

In essence, I think you're alright, it's just luck of the draw if it's noisy or not, as long as it plays I guess it's fine (though I have to admit the disc drive noise takes getting used to when I had 2.5 years of near silence with my 40gb).

I buy the move bundle to start, fan was very quiet (no tone pitch sound) except the hard drive and the blue disc do a lot of noise very more that the one I posted on youtube. I Need to replace it because power supply fail 3 week after purchase.

This is the sound of my new ps3 slim. Sound like a hairdryer.  Extremely annoying. I am thinking to return it again. 320 gb model CECH25xx -B

Mines making a lot of noise too, I think it's because somebody threw a football in the house and it hit the ps3... hahaha

Just bought my girlfriend a ps3 320gig uncharted bundle, it is extremely noisy when reading discs. The ps3 is completely silent until it reads from the disc, then it's so loud it's distracting when you are playing a game. Youtube video below, is this really normal? If so Sony put together some really ***** hardware, the disc drive sounds like I'm printing a document on my Epson.

I just bought a 320gb slim because my 80 fat decided to die  the 320  is so much worse its so loud when reading disc all the time in game play its so annoying my 80 never made sounds like that they must be getting cheap. i was thinking off taking it back but from what everyone is saying is that they all make that noise stupied sony really made a mistake. my 80 was so quiet now my new one sucks

my ps3  slim (160gb) makes the same noise when reading the disks but the fan is quiter than it in the old models so for sure it's not a problem with the consoles as long as many guys have reported having the same problem  BUT it is a problem with Sony that didn't care about  such a problem after testing the slim models and pretended it's normal ! may be the one who tested these new models was deaf and probably didn't hear the noise the console made !!!
