PS3 Slim Disc Drive Noise

Hi,

I have just brought a new 320gb PS3 slim.

Compared to my mates 250gb slim, the disc drive is a lot louder when reading data from the disc. I'm not sure if Sony are using cheaper/different drives in the newer models (CECH-2503).

Additionally, when I insert a disc the drive makes two sort of grinding sounds like it is taking the disc in and positioning it correctly.....

Can anyone else add there experiences with their own slim consoles?

Thanks.

Re: PS3 Slim Disc Drive Noise

The game (only played Fifa 10 so far) plays no problem, no freezing or hang ups etc.

I am just concerned at the amount of noise the disc drive is making, as like I say my mates 250gb does not make quite as much noise, plus when I insert a disc there is this other noise.

Re: .Re: PS3 Slim Disc Drive Noise

Sounds okay to me.  But if your not happy send it back to the shop, not Sony.

Having abysmally gone through three PS3 Slims each one had its own little anomalies.

Be it the sound of the hard drive, the disc eject or the dreaded ramping fan noise...

Take into consideration Fifa 10 is renowned for giving the disc drive a good workout too.

Re: .Re: PS3 Slim Disc Drive Noise

Thanks for your reply yoAndrew.

I brought it from Sainsburys only last week, I doubt they would take it back just because the hard-drive is louder than expected, especially as the console is functioning correctly. I may give them a call to enquire anyway.

What are the symptoms of the other two problems you report.

Sainsburys can't refuse you. You are the customer and you believe the unit is faulty.

Re: .Re: PS3 Slim Disc Drive Noise

Swapped my console at Sainsburys last night.

The replacement's disc drive is exactly the same so I guess it must just be normal in these newer models.

The fan sounds like a tractor ticking-over too...
