I'm quite surprised this is firmware 4.00
why not 3.80 I mean it doesn't seem that big an update to warrant a new version number
I mean versions 2.00 and 3.00 were big updates (check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_system_
Also the changes don't warrant the 180MB of this update, wonder what will come in 3.01?
I know cross game chat won't ever come on PS3 (wish people would stop going on about that, seems pointless to me anyway) but I was expecting a few big updates in 4.00 not least the browser and a move interface to replace the XMB
Also for the idiot who thinks you'll only be able to update the Vita if you own a PS3, just so you know you alos need a sony Bravia TV, a sony surround system and a Sony Ericsson Xperia phone or your Vita won't even start! better get saving

Ok it's about to turn 10:28. I'll type as fast as I can for 2 minutes to see how much I can get in.
Speed:
- The PS3 takes far too long to load up despite the logo and even now the new health warning taking ages. Should be far quicker.
- The in-game XMB takes far too long to load. If you even try to load it during a multiplayer game, the chances are you will die even before you have started doing whatever it is you want to do.
- Communication takes ABSOLUTELY AGES! In a world where we have voice messaging opportunities, why are we still forced to use the exceptionally bad virtual keyboard. Why can't we use voice messaging as the process is exactly the same. You're just using a different input method and sending a little bit more data. There are no more processes that are different than the text messaging system.
- Downloads take FOREVER to finish! I've got a 10 meg line, and yet it takes me a ridiculous amount of time to get things downloaded and even then it takes another decade to install.
- Stability is terrible! How many times does a game have to freeze on me!? DC Universe is a plain example. A "PC power house" like a PS3 can't even handle it without freezing.
That took me 3 minutes and I formated it after the 3 minutes.
Topics I didn't even cover are RAM issues, browser problems, XMB design (it needs to be less of a strain), and a whole host of other stuff.

I haven't had any problems so far. Played gt5 after updating and works fine.

Ages? LOL.. a few more seconds.
In game XMB takes roughly the same time to get into (in most games) as accessing my dashboard on the 360 S I own.
Agreed - Voice messaging should be included.
Download speeds are down to your ISP. I get the same speed downloads on my PS3 as I do on any other bit of kit I have attached. Blaming this on the PS3 is nonsense.
I can count on 1 hand the amount of games that have frozen - same as I can on the Xbox, the Wii, my phone... Your point is moot.
Oh,. and you have addressed the RAM issue already - in game XMB is down to RAM. XMB design won awards, so you are just being picky.
Sell it. Move on.
