Do you know why Microsoft redesigned the original Xbox 360 user interface?

Because it sucked.

Now, they have an inverted XMB, with huge icons and lots of commercials/other junk.

I like the PS3's XMB interface because it's very fast and clean.

The problem with the firmware-updates in terms of design and implementation, however, is that they always use someone else to design the new functionalities. At least, that's how it looks and feels.

It simply is a lack of consistency. And it sucks.

The grey box in the Friendlist?

I bet it's some wild idea from the guy that normally does the coding.

Re: PS3 XMB (Improvement ideas)

i love the design of the friends list and your take on the XMB,

i dont like the whats new section.. HOWEVER i do like the priciple behind it.

i think what makes the whats new section horrid on 3.00 is the fact that you have links to store items in there. you then have the main store icons, you then have the games section store icons. and soon the video sections store icon.. when is enough enough lol..

i think the whats new icons should be shrank to the size of the icons in the GAME store section. or just remove whats new and only have the store icon in the games area. with the most recent games as the icons in the list....

when we eventually get the video store. dont use the playstation store logo give it a distict differance. develop a video store logo.... so the thing looks seperate...

i think sony should look at this idea that you have presented to them and think hard about implementing it.... you wont get any credit because your design is partially taken from the websites version of the trophy comparrions. but its deffinatly better than the current friends list.

Wow! Well Done- I only wish there were a kudos button, I was pretty happy with the firmware (especially the sparkly bits) but this looks amazing.

Re: PS3 XMB (Improvement ideas)

Very good work. I'm impressed. Those shots look far more professional than the current XMB. It looks sleek, and concise, exactly what's needed. Xbox 360 cocked up by trying to do too much with their NXE, they made it too commercial, too cartoony, removed all levels of customisation, and made the whole layout worse. I don't want to see Sony making the same mistakes. Clarity, and simplicity. Don't make new buttons and menus, just integrate (for example, put iPlayer in Videos instead of it's own subcategory), it's why I really like your PSN Store/What's New? Idea.

I hope Sony takes a serious look at these forums. We as the consumers know what we want, we know whats needed. After all, we use the machine evry day, and we're it's target market. No offence to anyone at Sony (you've been doing great jobs) but we know whats best for everyday casual use.

Microsoft are mainly for software, such as um.. Well I don't know... WINDOWS?!

Things like these are easy for Microsoft but Sony are hardware stuff, TVs, Walkmans, Phones, Games Consoles..

Besides, the NXE and the old dashboard sucks compared to the XMB...
So it is a challenge to all this for Sony.

Yes, and that would be perfectly fine if they would just hire some professionals to help them do things right. You know, speed things up, give them advice...

Re: PS3 XMB (Improvement ideas)

Just a thought. Instead of highlighting the user to bring out the trophy info, keep it small then press X just to extend it and then press X again to bring up the full Stats?
