PS3 new HDD not working

G'day,

Recently my 320 PS3 slim's HDD became corrupted, losing all my data/information/everything (Skyrim). So I tried to restore from a recent backup, which got to 90% then froze (every time I tried) I tried to do a full system format but it gave me the error message that it wasn't going to work. It still played games just fine, I could save information on it, but I was worried about the corrupted HDD. I gave up with my old HDD and bought a new 500 GB 5400 RPM HDD and replaced it.

I turned on my PS3 to run a full format on the new HDD but when I turn on the PS3 I get a black screen followed by this message

"The system software cannot be run correctly. Press the PS button to try to restart the system. If the system cannot be restarted, the system partition of the hard disk must be reformatted and you must reinstall the system software. Connect storage media that contains updated data of versions 4.11 or later, and then press the START and SELECT buttons at the same time."

Followed by directions to check a site for relevant data.

So I went out, bought an external Hard Drive, downloaded updated 4.11 and copied it to the Hard Drive following the instructions (Hard Drive) -> (PS3) -> (UPDATE) then the contained PS3UPDAT.PUP file.

I connected it to the PS3, to install it. I press the start and select buttons at the same time. After a few minutes of "checking" I get this error message.

"No applicable update data was found. Connect storage media that contains update data of version 4.11 or later, then press the START and SELECT buttons at the same time."

I'm not sure what I've done wrong, I've followed all instructions to the letter and have no idea what left to do. I don't want to buy a new PS3, I just want my current system to work.

Re: PS3 new HDD not working

your external disk needs to be fat32,you can do that by pc. i have had that same problem but if you have a second ps3 system you can transfer everything from the old system to the new one.

But reading this story are sure your that your disk is not broken, cuz if it is you really lost all.:smileysad:

Try putting the update onto a USB stick instead of copying it onto the HDD. Put in the HDD and attach the USB stick, then when the system starts it should ask you for the latest firmware and then install it from the USB.
