PS3 not reading one specific game disc - error code 80010514

I have the old model 80GB PS3 which I have had since Xmas 08 and it has been fine, up until I got Colin McRae Dirt 2 in Xmas 09....the game has frozen a few times when I try to switch between the online chat window and the results table just as it loads to go back to the home menu.....so it causes the whole thing to freeze...

So, yesterday, it did it again, but this time when I restarted the PS3, it came up with the error message saying it couldn't read the disc and showed an error code of 80010514! I thought oh sh*t!!! has the lazer gone? Has the system corrupted?

Well I've tried a few more games (MLB 09: The Show and Fifa 10) and they work fine, they load up fine, run smoothly and have no issues at all. I tried a DVD (Rat Race) and that worked fine....but when I put the Colin McRae: Dirt 2 disc in, the system doesn't recognise it at all! There is a small crack starting in the middle around 9 O'clock position and extending outwards about 5mm (maybe a tad more).

Any ideas what the problem is? Would a system restore work?

Thanks

Re: PS3 not reading one specific game disc - error code 80010514

I had EXACTLY the same problem.  The disk that wouldn't work for me was Modern Warfare 2.  Had all the problems you have described.  It would read all other games fine, until......

Me and my friend were playing FIFA about 2 weeks after the MW2 problem started occuring.  The sound just went on the game (im presuming the PS3 streams the sound from the disk), then after a few minutes it just froze.  After re-setting my PS3 I found it would read no games at all. Wouldn't even show a disk was in there on the XMB.  I rang sony and indeed my Blu-Ray drive was dead.

My MW2 disk had a slight crack in the middle, just like your Clolin McRae disk.  I suggest stop putting it in your Blu-Ray drive before it's too late.  Hopefully the damage hasn't already been done.  Providing thats what has caused it obviously.

My PS3 was a launch day 60gb by the way.
