Re: PS3 runs fine after YLOD fix, but won't run games.

[ Edited ]

The 'usual' fault in the BR Drive is the laser carriage. You can get a replacement (if you're sure that's the issue) provided you can find the model number of the drive in question.

You can also test to see if it's the BR lens carriage at fault because the drive 'should' recognise CDs & DVDs just fine. If you didn't know, the Phat models had 2 separate lens'.

If the drive won't recognise any other disc based media, cut your losses and get a slim, which are much more reliable.

Re: PS3 runs fine after YLOD fix, but won't run games.

Perhaps if I try downloading the new firmware and see if that works because I read somewhere the drivers may be incorrect. I've opened up the blu ray drive and everything looks fine.

I could also do a system restore because I remember seeing that my hard drive was corrupt but it does still show my photos.

Any more advice?

I would personally try a factory reset, despite your data like photos and stuff are still there, data might still be corrupted on the drive.

If your device has had the YLOD fix done, I assume with a lot of heat, personally I think the CPU or GPU just gets fried and looses the ability to process complex calculations.

I think you may be correct there but if that was the case surely it would still show disks?

Re: PS3 runs fine after YLOD fix, but won't run games.

If the board had been damaged by the heat required to fix the YLOD who know what will and wont work ?

I had 4or5 YLODs on my 60gb PS3, I was covered with Cont Play but it got so annoying always waiting for the PS3 to die again that I traded the last working refurb in at game last year and paid the difference for a slim. Best decision I made as I now enjoy reliable quite gaming and use my PS2 if I want to play old GTA games.

Not sure if you have the cash or not but I would recommend a Slim if you can afford it - maybe sell your 60gb on eBay for spares or repairs ?

Probably will get a Slim if a new PlayStation console is confirmed and price may come down a few pennies.
