PS3 slim plus ?

[ Edited ]

question

while the PS4 is several years away,

From what I read the main things developers suggest on PS3 is that it would benefit from more memory.

This is an easy thing for Sony to change in the hardware.

so why not release a slim+ that just has more ram.

they would sell out and and zero R&D costs to sony.

The PS3 games are so big now and most look amazing anyway.

(I dont have time to play them all).. and this would give PS3 a 15 year + lifespan tbh and then I could finally finish most lol

Whilst i understand what you are saying, all i see is a whole host of people being forced to shell out for a NEW slim or not play the games developed for the new system.

All this reminds me of the is the 80's and 90's (spectrum +2 & +3, Amiga 500, 600 & 1200) where games developers where forced to write different version of the games for the different systems.  How today's games are developed, this wouldn't be cost effective.

Re: PS3 slim plus ?

A two-tier hardware console usually never works remember the Mega Drive CD and 32X add-ons failed big time.

If a PS3.5 was ever available they would have to make some sort of expansion peripheral for the existing models maybe through the ethernet port or USB ports if possible which i doubt.

I just don't think a new model would work still a while left in the current models life, memory restrictions normally only apply to the OS not games when developed and coded properly Bethesda a fine example with the Skyrim patch fix.

Re: PS3 slim plus ?

Bringing out a new PS3 with bigger RAM would just make things even more confusing and difficult for both consumers and software developers alike

Re: PS3 slim plus ?

They all played games the same though. They didn't increase RAM or change a processor for example. I think this is what he is suggesting, and why people are saying it wouldn't work. Sony have had their many iterations too remember ;-)

Re: PS3 slim plus ?

Consoles are suppossed to be non-upgradable. I wouldn't like to know there is a game that my PS3 cannot run. That's why I switched from PC-->Console gaming so I would not care if my graphics or RAM can/can't run a game.

Core and arcade are the same really. pro was the original elite was a higher memory version (like the ps3 have many diffrent memory options) slim as you call it although its the same size is the only 1 that is different due to new design and wifi being added although it was only released to coincide with kinect.
