Am I the only one who can't take a thread started by a new account (supposedly a 'new' PS3' owner) that seriously, when the account name is xbmcfan, and the first thread they create is comparing the xbmc on the original xbox to the media manager on the ps3?? I mean.. I know we have a few legit users and genuine PS3 owners with ps3 in their PSN accounts... (Pllaystation, PSMANDEMON amongst others)... but none of them would surely if they bought a 360 as a second console (much like myself, Harle, Smelck, sidawg, tjohn and others) then use that same 'PS3 fanboy' name as their LIVE account name, and then use it to post on the 360 forums... Seriously... *facepalm...
Maybe not, but it seemed like a frustrated observation rather than your average newbie trolling post. And IMO the OP does raise a rather sound point.
I read the "xbmc on the original xbox" as just a point to help the argument. XBMC runs on pretty much every platform out there - Apple TV, PC, Mac, Linux - hell it can even be setup as a standalone OS - and it really does poop hard on the PS3's media functionalities. Several times in fact.

Lift your game sony.
Yeah, i felt the same way when i migrated from the 360 too, and you'd find alot of new ps3 owners would agree with you. Say what you will about the 360, but its dashboard Interface was alot more user friendly, organised and faster. You do get used to it, and once you learn your way around the XMB it becomes 2nd nature, but it is a bit of a mess.
A major annoyance for me is how you have to wait for your trophies to load, and synchronizing with the server takes way too long.

I have a had a 360 probably longer than most (25th November 2005)
and I dont like the interface at all. It is very quick but unless you are online
downloading codecs (seriously who use wmvs most conveluted crappy codec ever)
then its very limiting in terms of video playback. Streaming works very well though.
I agree with Harl on having some more organisational options on the PS3.
But I always come back to the fact that first and foremost the PS3/360
first and foremost are used for games...Thats why I bought mine
I dont care if I have to wait 1 minute for my videos to load if Im streaming
content. Fact is it upscales video fantasically well (better than the 360 does)
If you want to nitpick you can slander both consoles ..at the end of the day
either are good options...the op just seems like another as kiwi said troll
I have only seen a handful of people bring up legimately good reasons
or ways to better either console as a media hub.
I have seen alot of whinging though ![]()

Oh don't get me wrong, I know the OP is a troll. But instead of taking the bait and getting stirred up, I thought I'd make an actual topic out of it. In fact, I've edited the title of my post to sound less troll-ish. ![]()
I think I will use photoshop to come up with some nifty improvements, not sure when though. Hopefully I don't get any plans for this weekend and I'll do it then. ![]()
And I, like tjohn, see the consoles as games consoles first and foremost, anything else is great. PS3 & X360 go above and beyond what I expect out of my console, which is great, but kind of daunting when you think about what the PS4 / Xbox 720 are going to bring... I can see a bunch of software engineers for Microsoft & Sony sitting around scratching their heads trying to come up with original ideas.
Microsoft came up with great innovative (somewhat) ideas with the 360, so I hope one of them can do it again.

Funny how criticizing gets you called a troll.
As well as cutting down mu music collection because it was taking forever to scroll I had to serach forums to find out how to get my album art to appear when it all appears on wmp11 my phone and my original xbmc.
the lack of organising and display options is incredibly annoying. I can see why people just leave content on externals so that you can keep your folder organisation.
Look the PS3 has fantastic capabilities - which is the reason I got it.
Blu ray
video
music
Video on demand thru playstation store (though range is pretty crap)
plays ABC Iview (Australian ABC Tv on demand)
and has capacity for digital tv recording and playback (thru Play TV)
This hardware capability was the reason I got a PS3 - which is also the reason that I am so disappointed by its lack of a really good media UI.
If sony could get the media UI right then it would really have a one-box-to-rule-them-all capacity.
Until that time it is a games console that can do a few other things

Precisely my point...
Anyway... In regards to the topic I would say in my opinion the 360 has better functionality, but visually I think it has gone from bland (the old blades system) to wii-style yuck (the newer avatar system)

Any one else notice that the OP compared the XMB to XBMC, not the 360.![]()
Please view the XBMC project here,
It is an ongoing opensource project dedicated to creating the best media server program, the only reason it has Xbox in the name is because it was originally created to run on the XBOX (not 360), it is now pretty well separated all ties to Xbox, only keeping the name.
So all this XMB vs 360interface talk is well off topic.
