How can 2x be faster than 12x? I cannot see the sense in your statement at all.

Its quicker off the mark however its constant speed is variable as it spins up then down but blu-ray is constant but its still slower proven by the benchmarks I have seen which are available on the net and I believe were posted on here? Anyhow think what you guys wish to think this argument is flawed severly since no one has a PS3 to physically test with any games to come to a conclusion whether its slow or quick.

the 360 drive is faster, but it varies, on the whole blu ray is faster than dvd, so if and when they get blu ray upto 12x, then blu ray will be quite a bit faster

thought i'd show this again

blu ray 2x (ps3) = 74Mb/s (9.25MB/s)
dvd 12x (360) = max 128Mb/s (16MB/s) (varies)
hd dvd 1x = 34Mb/s (4.36MB/s)

As i have already said, the 360's drive averages at 8x speed, much slower than your figures here show.

Plus it's not too hard to research yourself. Just search for 12x dvd average read speed. And that's just for single layer, double layer dvd the speed is even slower.

2x blu-ray is very close to 12x dvd single layer.
