PS4 launch target

BIG NEWS

I work for one of the big 4 accountancy firms and Sony's financial year end was yesterday (31/3).  One of my colleagues is preparing (and translating) the draft report and accounts.  In the Chief Operating Officer's section of the report, Sony is announcing that the PS4 is targeted for launch in 2012 (presumably late in the year as they're being no more specific than that).  My colleague working on it is an accountant and non-techie, and there are some technical details she can't translate properly - when I find out a bit more about the technical insides of the new box, I'll report back here.

Believe what you like - but check any source you like: Sony's financial year end is 31st March and all information is embargoed until then.

Re: PS4 launch target

Too bad I won't be buying one. After they screwed me over with the 3.21 firmware release. As far as I'm concerned Sony is a dead end company that can't be trusted to deliver on functonality. The other OS functionalty was a key feature when I bought my PS3, taking that away was the last straw.

Re: PS4 launch target

I've heard a few times about ps4 being released in 2012. I hope it's not true. I really like my ps3, and don't want to have to replace it or have it outdated. When ps4 does come to the consumer, I hope that it'll be because they've reached the limits of ps3, not because they want to compete with xbox sales. Also, I hope they have some sort of feature where you put your ps3 drive into the ps4 so you lose no data, just like an upgrade in graphics and performance with the same games and info you had on the ps3...

The PS4 will be to the PS3 like the PSP Go is to the PSP. Digital media only.

I agree - I've had it with Sony, from their *****ty ads in wipeout, to the ridiculous pricing discrepancies for different regions, failed blu-ray drive after 22 months, and now this removal of Other OS is the final kick I'm willing to take.

I never thought I would say this, but I won't get the next-gen sony

Then I won't be buying it. It takes me forever to download demos and game updates on my broadband shortband! I need media.

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 2 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?
