With the 'super slim' likely to be released late next year or sometime in 2014, i dont think we'll see a PS4 until 2015 at the earliest but we really dont need a new Playstation the PS3 is still capable of so much

The super slim is probably available in stores in September.

The current slim was announced at Gamescon in mid august in 2009, and was released in stores the next month. Chances are that this super slim is announced at Gamescon too.

Why not announce it at E3 then? If they had announced it at E3 it would have given people 3 months to decide if they want to buy it but if they do announce is at Gamescom in August its kind of just going to be sprung on people

For any business, the time between an announcement and when the sales start should preferably be as short as possible, or you will suffer from the Osborne effect. Basically, the longer the time is, the more people gonna wait for the cheaper model they know are coming, rather than to buy the current model now.

Didn't Sony ship to US shps the same week as the anouncment?

Europe had to wait a month for them.

As for not having the anouncment for E3 they were not ready for it and wanted to wait for gamescon

OP why replace a perfectly working PS3 just for a model with a larger HDD. Simply upgrade your current 120GB models HDD done it twice myself first upgrade to 320GB and recently to 1TB.

I think Sony will announce Something at the Toyko Game Show they always announce something there.
