Im pretty sure that once you change your psn id (if you could), say like on xbox live, im pretty sure they would not lose all records of that name change. So if you did so on xbox live, they would still have record of your old name, and come up in their database searches if the need arises.

Yes, however, what if some one happens to change thier ID to your old one? I love my ID as it fits the time period I was going for, (per Deciple is spelled the way it is.) which is why i kinda have critisism of the Trophy system and that it shouldn't have been implimented. But I digress, your Online ID is something you should be proud of, while yours may not be "ArmyOfDarkness" and instead be "ArmyOfDarkness1337" be proud cause nobody else had that ID.

or you could think carefully about what username you intend to have, pick something unique with significant meaning to you, so that 6-12 months later you won't be complaining for choosing a name on impulse or quoting a random line/title from a film, game or whatever
