It has been around for a while now and updated a few times. What are your thoughts?
Can it record to an external HD?
Any chance of streaming recorded TV to a DLNA client?

1. Only if you set it to a zone outside of Australia that isn't restricted by Freeview.
2. No.
I find that PlayTV does what it does very well. What it doesn't do is improve what broadcasters choose to put on the air. If you're not enjoying the TV you're watching now, PlayTV won't make it better.

No. Series linking is one of the things that Freeview compliance attempts to banish. Freeview is a deal made with commercial TV stations so that they would finally agree to switch to digital (and we're still waiting for them to switch off analog). Series linking would require the commercial tv stations to participate and it is not in their interests to make it easy for you to record the TV programs you want to see and watch them at your convenience. They only count ratings for viewers that watch live and ratings are how they set thier prices for their customers, the advertisers.
However, PlayTV does have a handy search feature which can find any program in the EPG, which you can then hope is on at the same time every week and doesn't start early or finish late or get moved suddenly in the schedule.
I mainly got it so that I could replace all the other boxes with one PS3. If you're looking to minimalise your entertainment cabinet, and reduce the number of remotes you have to juggle, I highly recommend it. Note that it uses up a USB port on your PS3, so you might need to get a USB hub if you've already run out of ports.
