Blimey and I thought it was just me !

I had to delete the saved play tv data on mine - simply re-installingthe software produced the exact same hang at the playtv logo.

This is a known problem amongst users and Sony. There is a patch in the works to fix the loading screen freeze which will be mandatory. The patch has no known release date as of yet.

The unofficial fix for this involves removing all of your previously recorded programmes. To do this:
1. Completely uninstall PlayTV (Press Triangle on PlayTV icon and press delete. Also make sure to delete any PlayTV items under "Game Data" and "Save Data")
2. Reinstall PlayTV to V1.0 using the official PlayTV disk.
3. Run PlayTV at least once and do one 'Full Channel Scan'. Do not update PlayTV yet!
4. Redownload the PlayTV additional features from the PlaystationStore by clicking on "Downloads" in the top-right. Install after downloaded.
5. Run PlayTV again and do one more 'Full Channel Scan'.
6. Install the latest update for PlayTV (Currently 2.02).
7. Restart Playstation 3 Console after update.
8. Complete one final 'Full Channel Scan'.

Your PlayTV should now be usable. Hope this helps.

Hi LonERecoN

Is this fix temporary? I mean, will it fail again (and need the reinstall again?).

I am wondering if it is best to wait for the new patch and stick @ version 1 for now?

Hi All,

I have encounetered the same problem:

I've had PlayTV for four months, updated to the new software, V2.02, before Christmas and this afternoon, January 8th 2011, PlayTV hangs on the load screen, with only the logo visible.

I restarted the PS3 a number of times, both hard and soft but to no avail, the same problem keeps occurring.

I called Playstation UK support and was told to delete and reinstall PlayTV, however I'm reluctant to do so, as I'll lose all my recorded programmes. I don't think the guy on the other end really understood what I was on about, despite careful explanation.

I think it's back to the TV's own Freeview for the time being, until a patch is released or I lose patience and delete everything.

i was going to upgrade my ps3 HD for play tv but after hearing all the freezing up and stuff il just copy the M2TS format (play tv record file) to a dvd disk from what iv heared most blueray drives will play them fine and some dvd players to..not that il be using them as i use my ps3...i may upgrade HDD later in the year for games only..

Something I have noticed, whilst installing and reinstalling PlayTV from disk, it tells you there's thumnail clips of the recordings you make in the PlayTv library - there aren't? Is this something you have to enable in another well hidden menu option or is it just an outright lie?

select the "library" option from the initial menu screen, then highlight any of the recordings within the library directly - this should pull up a separate menu enabling you to play the recording etc. - "library view" should then be apparent towards the lower part of that menu whereupon you then have the option of adopting either a "list" or "thumbnail" style as preferred ......

Another well hidden menu option then? Ha ha, thanks deepershades! I've had PlayTV since October and never noticed that option :/
I guess I only ever watch TV when my brain is turned off.
