Playstation 3 Hard Drive Screw Worn-out

[ Edited ]

Dear Playstation 3 Community,

First time poster, just bought myself a Playstation 3 Slim 160gb.

Now, I've gone ahead and replaced the stock hard drive with one of my Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320GB I had...but it was the way I did it, in which, I'm concerned.

Everything works fine and whatnot, but I fear, for future tweaks, there'll be a problem. Basically, when I had taken out the stock hard drive and replaced it, I had obviously tightened the screw (blue one on the base of the PS3) a bit too much and have been unable to get a decent grip with any of my screwdrivers.

I've YouTubed some solutions for general wornout screw heads...resolutions would be:-

1.Try a different screwdriver.

2.Use a Damaged Screw Remover.

3.Hammer a screwdriver into the screw to embed it further.

1. I've got a few in the flat, but none really help give me the grip I need to unscrew.

2. From the videos I've seen, I need a power drill (again, I might've probably been looking at the wrong source)

3. I'm very apprehensive with this one because I don't want to damage my PS3.

Any advice to this would be greatly appreciated.

Number 3 is a definite NO NO.

The only thing I can suggest is this. Can you see the edges of the screw? If so you might try gripping the opposites side with a pair of small nose pliers and then try unscrewing it that way.

Re: Playstation 3 Hard Drive Screw Worn-out

needle nose pliers all the way

its how i always loosen the screws before going anywhere near them with a screwdriver

Let the others come after us. We welcome the chase

Re: Playstation 3 Hard Drive Screw Worn-out

If you have just bought yourself a PS3 slim then why didn't you just buy a 320gb one instead of getting a 160gb then replacing the HDD?:Stupid:

Because it's cheaper to buy a 160GB PS3 and a 320GB hard drive than a 320GB PS3?

Personally I'd just leave it, 320gb is quite a lot of room depends if going to have lots of downloads etc on it.
Probably not too helpful a suggestion though.
