Re: Playstation 3 update 3.61 problems YLOD

" but there has been clear indication that the new firmware is running hotter than older ones"
Heat kills PS3s, new FW is hotter, = new FW kills ps3s.

Like I said, none of us can prove this but I would LOVE for an engineer to record all the details of the PS3 (cpu voltage, clock speed, CPU temp etc) before and after the update.
The only way we can pin this down is with consistent scientific testing. Record everything before and after with known conditions.

Of course as users none of us have the time or money to mess around with this. It shows however why I have been anti-update from the start.

Re: Playstation 3 update 3.61 problems YLOD

My husband switched on his in order to get the update. It completed the update it without a hitch, and switched itself off as usual. Come the next evening, it won't switch on. It just flashes yellow and then red. It's not overheating - it's not even switching on! We've tried it a couple of times since and it attempts to fire up for about a second, then shuts down.

My PS3 is a newer model so I expect it will be fine. Even so, I'll carry on waiting until I actually play a game that requires me to upgrade.

Again, as people keep on saying over and over in response to us newbies signing up for the forum just to complain, it could be a coincidence. Yes, his was an old machine and could have gone at any time (or so people keep on saying here). But I wanted to add my voice to the stats.

Re: Playstation 3 update 3.61 problems YLOD

Guys, I can confirm that it is indeed the update that is killing the consoles.

How can I confirm this?...

I am currently awaitng delivery of a replacement Fat 40GB next week form Sony - this will be the 3rd replacement I've had after my orignial died and I paid Sony £131 as it was out of warrenty - luckily the subsequent replacements haven't cost me as they've replaced them all as a gesture of goodwill.

The one I have now (bricked & awaiting pick-up after dying yesterday) was a replacement for a Fat 40GB that died on me in March 2011 - 2 days after updating it.

That one was a replacement for a Fat 40GB I got in July last year.... after updating it

That one was a replacement for my original Fat 40GB that I bought in May 2008... guess what... after updating it!

Coincidence? No chance! ... its happened to me mid-game online & off-line and whilst watching a movie - the only constistant factor is that its happend within days of installing an update.

I always update to the latest version, basically so that I can play on-line - if I didn't have to update to do so then I wouldn't bother.

To be fair to Sony, as I mentioned above - after having paid £131 to replace my first one that died, they have not charged me anything for replacing the others... and hopefully will not NEXT time!

Re: Playstation 3 update 3.61 problems YLOD

Hi all,

Also my (fat) PS3 died last weekend after updating it to 3.61. Right after the update, the PS3 went down and never to come back again. At first i thought i might made a mistake or something like that. But as soon as i googled about the problem (http://www.google.com/search?q=ps3+dead+update+3.61&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:smileysurprised:ffic... i find more and more people with the same problem.3 out of 4 of my collegues who have a PS3 never had any probs with it, till they updated it to 3.61 (the one that doesnt have a problem never updated his system ....)

Just called with Sony Netherlands about it and gues what: "Its impossible this can happen due an update" their statement was. I could send it back for repair for 150 euro's !!!

Since years i buy (nearly) every electronic device i own from Sony, but that will stop as from now. Also thinking about sending a mail to the press and consumer tv-programs about this.

A very unhappy Sony consumer.
