Ps3 dualshock controllers

Hey peeps, just wanted to get other peoples opinions about the build quality of the Ps3's dualshock controllers. To me the build quality of these are not up to the standard of previous generation controllers " eg " Ps1 & Ps2 control pads.

The first controller that originally came with my Ps3, I'd used it for only a few weeks, when the left analog stick became stuck in a slightly forward position ( through general use, playing games on my Ps3 ). As you can imagine, this made playing games a nightmare, as an on screen avatar would move on it's own, or even in a games menu's, the controller would scroll through the menu all of it's own accord. I took this back to the store where I got it from & they said " it must be faulty ", & swapped it for a new one.

Since then, this new control pad has had the same thing happen ( through general use, of playing games ). I also purchased a 2nd control pad, & as it is my 2nd controller, it doesn't get as much use ( I've hardly used it at all ). The analog sticks on this 2nd controller are fine, but the R2 button does not fully spring back to it's up position. This is also a pain when playing games, as it means the R2 button is always slightly on. As I said " I've hardly used this 2nd pad, yet the spring in the R2 button has worn out so quickly.

Anyway, this leads me to the question " Is the Ps3's dualshock controllers up to the same build quality standard as previous generation control pads? or has Sony been cutting their standards back & cutting corners on products they build?  ( This is no joke when a new official controller from Sony will set you back around £50 a time ).

Lets hear what you think?

Re: Ps3 dualshock controllers

I have 5 controllers, 2 I bought with my original console but only 2 survive now. Had various things go wrong with them from buttons not working to the sticks.

Re: Ps3 dualshock controllers

When I bought my first DS3 pad it was £35 new.

 I walked passed games today £51 new £45 2nd hand! *****?

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

Re: Ps3 dualshock controllers

They deserve everything they get, they're another Woolworths.

The one in my town is a joke and I love going in there, having a look round then proclaiming that I've seen it £15 cheaper on the internet.

Big example is MW3. For the standard edition it's £45 and pre-owned are selling for £40 but if you trade in then they will only give you £15 for it.

I'm not heavy handed... I never had such problems with the Ps1 or Ps2 controllers... Controllers use to last the lifespan of the system it was used on

Re: Ps3 dualshock controllers

the ps3 controllers are indeed *****e,the plastic usually starts to crack around the left analogue stick  after about 3-4 months of use ,or the parts have worn so badly that the d pad will stick on when you move the left analogue stick fully up,since 2009 i`ve gone through about 13 official controllers, but i still have, & use  my ps1 & ps2 original controllers ,which have had a right old battering in the past, the plastic that the ps2 controllers are made from is  much better quality than what they use for the ds3 controllers, the ps2 controllers just look & feel a lot more stronger/hard wearing next to a ds3
