Ps3 power in 5 years

Yes this may be an unnecessary thread but id like to have peoples opinion. Since the Ps3 was detailed back in E3 2006, what do you think about the power of the Ps3? It is clear that sony hyped the power of it and way more so by the fans (literally to the point where they convinced juornalists and consumers that it was more powerful than a pc :No-no:), has the Ps3 proved itself successful as the dog days of Ps2 or was it too focused on hardware? What do you think the Ps3 has achieved in terms of processing and graphical power?

I cant help but notice now the console wars is finally fading (until Ps4, Xbox 720 and Wii U come out next year :Help:) and people dont talk about the power of the Ps3 anymore.

Re: Ps3 power in 5 years

I don't know the answer to this question, that's why I'm asking but, wasn't the PS3 more powerful then a PC from 2006 at the same price range?

Re: Ps3 power in 5 years

Maybe I dont know but the PC went passed the Ps3 graphical power with ease later. Its vibe has definately changed now. it's come from focusing hardware to providing a lot of services and software.

Re: Ps3 power in 5 years

If you don't know, how can you criticise the claim from 2006 that it was more powerful then a PC?

Also, how can you compare todays technology (i.e. a gaming PC) to that of something over 6 years old?

I'm not really sure I understand what you are trying to achieve with your original post.

Re: Ps3 power in 5 years

My mobile phone has far more power than my BBC Model B - 32Kb ram, 2Mhz processor and 200kb floppy discs and that was only 30 years ago.............. Or my first PC with 8Mhz 80286, 1Mb of ram, 40Mb HDD and EGA graphics......... the only thing you can be sure of is that if you buy a machine today it will be surpassed tomorrow - built in obsolesence

Re: Ps3 power in 5 years

Sony mentioned Ps3 being a 'supercomputer' due to its amazing processor and amazing graphics. My question was not about Ps3 vs PC it was what do think about its power with the showing of games that could only run on the Ps3 than any other console such as uncharted, killzone, god of war etc.

Re: Ps3 power in 5 years

True say davey23 I still feel something is missing about the Ps3 that the original PlayStation and Ps2 used to have. To me the life of the Ps3 was about nothing but graphics and processing power with hardly any great innovation and diversity.......... Am I getting old?

Re: Ps3 power in 5 years

In my opinion. Yes PS3 power was overhyped. It's clearly not the power of a super computer like used in CG movies. I always knew that for the price of the system that you pay for. PC gaming always ahead in technology to consoles, but you have to spend alot more for the best PC gaming experience. The PS3 technology has looked dated for a while now. We did see great graphics in games like Uncharted 2 and 3. Even when the next gen consoles comes out, it will still be behind PC gaming technology.
