Rawr, copy protection!

[ Edited ]
Greetings all,

I've just bought dead island and have found it's god the same copy protection on saves that a lot of games seem to have lately. It's bloody inexcusable for reasons that have been discussed countless times in other threads, so I'll cut to the chase.

I've sent an email to the dev complaining about the save copy protection and asked them to remove it. For anybody who would like to use the email I sent to voice their own concerns to the dev, I've pasted my email below. Hopefully if enough users voice our objections we can put a stop to this practice.

--------------

I'm emailing about the copy of Dead Island that I have bought for the playstation 3 - I am having an issue with the copy protection on the save game system.

Dead Island currently copy protects saved games on the Playstation 3, and I am therefore unable to copy saves to an external data storage device.

This effectively prohibits me from playing my Dead Island game on any PS3 other than the one I started a new game on - a significant problem for me as I live between 2 addresses; my partners on my rest days and my own during a shift rotation.

I cannot imagine any justifiable reason why it would be necessary to prevent me from using my Dead Island game to play both at home and at my partner's address and can only imagine that this is collateral damage in some effort on the behalf of the developer to prevent pirating or trophy abuse.

I do not feel that it is acceptable for me, the paying customer, to have my enjoyment of this product limited so severely. Further to this I do not feel that the imposition of copy protection is proportionate to the problems it is attempting to solve and I should not be penalised when I wish to use the product I have bought in a way that is neither illegal nor immoral.

I therefore request that this feature be removed in order that I can enjoy the product for which I have paid without such unnecessary restrictions.

I am aware that Playstation Plus members can upload protected saved games to cloud storage however I will not be paying £40 for the privilege of using my own saved games and I should not have to wait 24 hours in between playing at my house and my partner's whilst I wait for playstation plus to allow me download a protected save file.

Please remove this feature for the sake of myself and all other legitimate users of your game.

I look forward to your response.

Will

get PS+ , the Devs will not help you, they put the protection in there for a reason.

Is a pain. Is is worth you getting ps+ for cloud saves? I know its rubbish that you have to but for some people its worth it.

Well, they did it with Resi 5 so perhaps with enough pressure they'll do it for this.

I'm no skin flint, but I really do begrudge paying £40 just to have functionality restored that games released 6 months ago already had. None of the other PS+ perks interest me as I'm not really a hardcore gamer.

I have had one PS3 die on me already, and I lost a lot of save data (including almost all of the guns in Resi 5 with infinite ammo). It's a sob story you're all no doubt bored of hearing so I won't bore you, but I shouldn't have to pay £40 for something as simple as backing up my saves.

At the end of the day we are the consumers, and I don't doubt for a second that if enough people kicked up a fuss it would force change. Please consider this thread an opportunity for like-minded people to gather and demonsrate a little solidarity.

Re: Rawr, copy protection!

They should not be copy protected!

All they need to do is lock the save to the profile that created it.

I am alright with being PS+ but yeah it was a pain in the but befor cloud saves!

I often swicth between three Ps3, and the 24hour wait is a pain for lock saves on PS+ but not as bad as not having PS+

Copy protected saves need to end!

I agree, as long as the saved files are going to the same account there is no problem.

Re: Rawr, copy protection!

The following post is of my opinion only and shouldn't be regarded as anything else:

The Copyright license is getting far too restricted. When you buy a product, you're supposed to buy the license of the product you've just bought as it enables you to do what you like to that product after it is purchased. Once you've purchased it , the product developer isn't supposed to have a hold of that product anymore. Years ago you could buy something and modify it to your specific preference. Whether it be a car, a bike or PC. Well... I'm glad it doesn't stem into cooking. Suasage roll? only you're not aloud to do anything with it and you're not aloud to cut it or rip it apart. Copyright should only be used to protect whats on disc, not be used in the outside world aswell i.e. PS3 saves, trophies, photos, themes.

I know this post doesn't make sense to anyone... but why restrict everything, cos' what you're potentially doing is stoppng people from exploring further and making the product better.
