I'm just wondering where it was advertised.

I've looked all over the box of my launch day 60gb and there is no mention of it at all, not even in the fine print...Not one iota.

I can't recall any advertisements that promoted other OS either. (although that said I can't recall last Saturday either :smileywink: lol)

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

No offense LitteBigDragonz but people like you make it bad for the rest of us.No they don't! If enough people do it that way would get have more chance than people moaning about it. Action speak louder than words. Sony didn't give a damn about OtherOS and a host of other features because people like you make things seem so rosyNo Sony took away the other OS to protect their property nothing to do with people refusing to to upgrade. Every time someone complains, a great-gun stands up to cover Sony's behind. I mean, they won't even reply on this thread because so many people will inevitably defend them here..Sony never reply yo these threads no matter if people defend them or not.or maybe they already have replied. You're not on their payroll by any chance are you LittleBigDragon?PMSL for some one who has done something about it by NOT updating one of his PS3 to use the OS has done more than people who cry about it.

Think about it, I just bought a really expensive Tupperware. Thats what this consol is. A big black container. Sony will fill whatever they deem fit into this containerYes they can as that is the way it works,, we will have to accept it, and other 'bright-sparks' will make sure they are not held accountableWhy should they be? They have a right to protect their investment from the minoraty out their that will take advantage of hacks ect. How can anyone accuse Sony of shirking their Customer Care responsibilites when Customers are sheilding them.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.Littlebig Dragonz is more of a solution than yours.  like I said action speaks louder than words, if enough people had done this to start with sony would have been more concearned about ps3's dissapearing from PSN.

The Other OS has never interested me TBH but that just me.

Sony removed the other OS to remove the exploit for the hackers (not that it worked)

But talk will do nothing espicley if your over two years late

You may think you are part of the solution but your not as you are way to late to join that party.

Also the pS3 sales have increased since the other OS was removed so Sony must be doing somthing right with the Playstation 3.

So sorry to say your not part of any solution as Sony won't listen they won't even know this topic is here.

Well i don't need to say anything, as you have said it all. Thank you.

The OS on the PS3 that came standard with the ( option of using it ) still works. It was something i wanted so i had the choice in keeping it, or losing it from Sony. ( Choices in life can be hard to make ) but i done something about it by NOT updating that PS3. Simple really. This means i have the best of both worlds IMO.

I sacrificed Linux for PSN, he sacrificed PSN for Linux. He's happy doing it, I'm not. Listen to this:
Sony advertises a feature
I buy that feature
Sony realises their mistake
Sony pulls the plug

Who pays the price? Multi-billion dollar empire Sony, or poor little mvariyawa. Don't ask me to understand why Sony did what they did. I'm not interested in why. I don't need to know if it was necessary or not. I got the short end of the deal.

Whats really rubbing salt in the wound is that there are so many jailbroken consoles floating around at the moment, so why are they still sticking to their decision to withhold a legal OtherOS? Fair enough they made a mistake, they tried to contain it, they failed at that too, so what is the point? If you can't contain it, at least regulate it. Bring back OtherOS so I don't have to tinker with CFW's.

Aha! Maybe this keyword will catch an administrators attention, what do you think.

Who said i was happy?. I didn't support Sony by my choice of NOT sacrificing that console to Sony's teams, Unlike you did with your PS3 lol, you said ( i'm Part of the problem ) yet you updated and excepted Sony's terms while i didn't ( at that time ) hoping others would do the same, but people like yourself ( sacrificed Linux for PSN ) and there was no turning back.

See i can understand why Sony done this, but Sony could have just updated every ones consoles without giving people a choice of not getting support for Linux, but Sony gave us the choice, and i took that choice. ( I didn't update while you did :Winner: ) and that's just the way it is.

Re: Removing OtherOS was a bad idea

You guys are missing the bigger picture. Today it is OtherOS tomorrow it is something bigger. Some people are content with being dictated to. Some people are ok with always compromising. I'm no door mat. Cmon guys if we accept this now we will not have a say in any future decisions Sony makes. As necessary as they may be, any decision should benefit both parties. Why should we compromise? Why can't they compromise as well? Not updating your system is not a solution. Not using PSN is not a solution. Its a compromise. Its frustrating.

/*If you can't see the benefit of loading Linux on a media centre then maybe you don't need it at all. That doesn't mean that everyone doesn't need it. Forget about whether or not it's feasible to load Linux. I want it, Sony saw a market for it, end of story. But thats not the topic of my discussion.*/ Their reason to take OtherOS off was Security. They didn't want their consoles hacked. Too late for that, now what is their excuse?

Everyone says Its too late, Forget about it, OtherOS will never come back. Sony has had two years to evaluate their decision to remove OtherOS, I think it's about time they review that decision. Now that there is no reason to keep it off the market, I feel that a hard enough push in the right direction will get us back that feature. The time is right.

I cant help but notice that the year is 2012, plenty has happened since otherOS was removed...... Linux is everywhere, it won!!!!

From your tv/dvd player to your phone and tablet/pad, live cd or Raspberry Pi, I get the sneaky suspicion people want some form of compensation and that this is really what the return of otherOS is about, I'm certain that if money was offered as a replacement otherOS would be dropped from the discussion.

Another way to look at things, is that the original PS3 is worth more money than the current slims, just keep it aside and sell it for a profit to someone who REALLY wants it.

That person probably doesn't want to use PSN anyway.

Re: Removing OtherOS was a bad idea

Why are you blaming Sony for it though, and not the people that abused the system to ruin other peoples experience when they go online. and then made it public so that others could do it too.

NOT taking Linux off, would probably have cost Sony alot more customers than the ones who wanted it left on

Re: Removing OtherOS was a bad idea

Cool Tasmanian Devil! But I have to disagree with you there. Unoffical Linux installations are still going on in all corners of the world, so removing OtherOS didn't solve anything.

Douchebags will be douchebags, they are everywhere and hack everything. It comes with the territory. How does Microsoft stay afloat when they ship their entire OS on DVD straight into in the hands of these douchebag hackers? Are the secrets of the universe locked inside that little black box?

Your opinions. which is fine of course, but not everyone will agree with your views and opinions.

That's called having a choice if Linux benefits you or not ( which is why WE had the choice to install Linux on PS3 or not ) until a Security related problem arose that stopped Sony supporting Linux.

And please remember this little bit of information that users forget. The XMB menu system had an option to partition the hard disk and install another operating system as Linux was NOT pre-loaded whatsoever on the PS3 to begin with. So Sony didn't take away anything at all, as it wasn't installed to begin with. ( Sony only supported users using Linux ).

Now no matter what's said or done the bigger picture is this ( IMO ) we lost support for Linux for a very good reason, and that's it. Most people know why this took place and understood it had to be done ( Even though people like myself didn't loss Linux ) i still understood why Sony made the decision. Sony made a choice in not supporting Linux and that's final.

We have gained many features on PS3 since then, so it's not all bad is it ( But some people only see the bad things ) even when Sony has added, 3D support, Updated HDMI features, better Surround Sound features, Added Trophy Support, Bravia sync on XMB, Netflex, BBC iplayer, PS+, ect ect ect.....
