i still wonder why people want Linux on the PS3. I tried it and it was pretty much useless for what I wanted to do mainly because of the low memory. I haven't used the PS2 emulation either since soon after I got the machine once my games library streched beyond 3 - 4 PS3 games. As somebody above mentioned, the Raspberry Pi is a much more sensible proposition for linux. USB hubs are only a few quid so compared to me paying 425 pounds for my launch day PS3, you coud purchase a Slim, a usb hub and a raspberry pi and still be quids in.
This argument was done and dusted years ago. Don't know why I bothered replying to this thread, I must be bored!!

No, I was referring to the statement where you said no info could be found anywhere (at the time).
I merely pointed out that the feature was mentioned and advertised (to a degree) in the system's electronic manual
EDIT: After reading several posts made after mine earlier it seems a few of you have mis-interpreted my post. I DID NOT say the feature was advertised per se. By linking to a relevant online manual I was simply pointing out that literature from Sony DID at the time mention the 'Other OS' feature as a retort to the statement made mid3get
There's too much misconception of others' posts in this thread by far, including some misread meaning of my earlier post. I was simply clarifying the existence of Sony's manual status pre- 'Other OS' removal

And if you'd not mis-interpreted my post we wouldn't be having this discussion.
As the op was calling it an advertised feature I pointed out that there was no mention of it on the box. I know full well it's in the manual as I was quite surprised when I read it back in 2007 as I wasn't aware it could do that. (it wasn't advertised you see

No I haven't, I directly responded to your (incorrect) statement that there was no information at all about 'Other OS' with early PS3 consoles, when in fact there was, albeit an electronic manual which was accessible directly from the PS3's XMB
In my original response to you I wasn't referring in any way to the notion Sony advertised the feature. Alll I did was respond to one particular part of your post which I felt was incorrect
But you just keep going if you think I was responding to the advertising issue if it helps you sleep tonight, Jesus wept
From what I can remember about the early days of the PS3 Sony DID advertise the 'Other OS' feature in a small way. They even made reference to the news story which said al-Queda (or was it Iraq?) was (potentially) using a load of PS3's running together, via Other OS and Linux to launch missiles or do something to the (Evil) West(ern Infidels)
Unfortunately I can't find a link to that but I can certainly remember the old Mods such as MusterBuster and Yoshii having a laugh and a banter about it in a few threads here
I don't know why I'm wasting my time to be honest, you're not going to believe me are you
Denial - Not just a river in Egypt

Wrong, it was on launch day PS3s
EDIT: OK, possible correction - It may not have been on Japanese launch PS3s but was there on EU launch several months later

Wrong, it was NOT installed / Pre-loaded on the PS3's at all. It was NOT a feature as standard on any PS3. It was up to the user to install OtherOS or not as it was not pre-installed in the 1st place. What Sony done was partition the HDD to support OtherOS if users choose to install it onto their PS3.
Example = Sony PS3 3.21 firmware will remove additional “Install Other OS” that allowed users to install other OS.
So like i said before " Other OS was never an ( advertised feature ) for PS3 as it wasn't even installed on the PS3 to begin with. So how can Sony take something away from gamers when it wasn't even a feature installed on the console in the 1st place? "
