Re: Ridiculously Loud Fan & Sending it back to Sony?

Felt like resurrecting this dead topic. Haven't got anything done about it because I've been busy with exams and lots of other things. But when I rang Sony they told me to do a factory reset, so I backed everything up, tried to do a restore with a full format, didn't bother because it said it would take 18 hours and 30 minutes (Bloody ridiculous, how can it take that long when theres nothing on there anyway?). Called again and told me there is nothing they can do other than try to repair it and that will cost me £130.

Sooo, months later I have decided it may be a good idea to try and enforce this Sales of Goods Act thingy, which basically states goods expected to last a long time, especially electrical items, are covered for up to six years from the purchase date. So I'll try sending an email to ASDA with this info and see what they say (As for some reason it refers to the seller and not the manufacturer)

Wondering if anyone has any experience on this? Or any tips etc....

Another one who has got the Sale of Goods Act wrong. No were in the SOGA does it state your covered upto 6 years. It says you have 6 years to make a claim. Also, if ASDA know there rights, you will have to prove yourself that there is a problem with it and it was inherent.

This has probably been tried as its nothing new, but have you tried the fan test.  Done it on mine and my sons PS3 and mine was not that bad.  My sons however blew a cloud of dust out the back of the console all over the place (well, better out than in...lol).

Make sure the back of your PS3 is facing an area you dont mind a dust storm hitting........lol....take any disk out of the PS3 and shut down the PS3......then switch off at the back.......hold the eject button while at the same time as switching it back on at the back until the fan blows like a hoover then let go and wait for it to finish.........the fan will stop and red light will flash when done.......switch off at back then back on again..........DONE!

Warning.....ashmatics should keep there inhalers to hand..........lol

Technicalities...In the link provided by JudgeFredd, the BBC seems to agree with me:
"And the key time span is six years. That's how long goods may be covered by the Sale of Goods Act."
I'm only inquiring for now and seeing what they will actually say, as Sony have been about as much use as a chocolate teapot on this matter. Just down to whether its actually considered a fault

And @Cane4real, tried all of that stuff (plus the fan test does supposedly more harm than good). I've moved it around, tried the fan test, had a gap underneath it, vacuumed the vents, put it in a cool place with lots and lots of space, restored it again and again, and none of it makes any difference. It MUST be a fault, as no PS3 would normally do thi. I'll have to make some youtube videos and show people just how ridiculous it is. Maybe i'll take a temperature reading aswell :smileyhappy:

No where in the SOGA does it state you are covered for upto 6 years. It states you have 6 years to make a claim. Also, you yourself after 6 months have to prove its an inherent fault with an engineers report.

But how do you get an engineer's report? Like I said, I'll just get in touch with them first and state my issues, and see what they can actually do about it
