Well i usually play COD in 1080i if i untick and just leave 1080p will it work with that setting too ???

As long as it supports 1080p, according to the back of the box COD4 does

 

I would try and go with 1080p all the time, if you get anything looking not too good (some upscaled games don't) then use 720p. I am no expert but on most places you research this the people who know what they are on about say that for gaming progressive is better than interlaced. So basically 1080p>720p>1080i. Hope this helps

i just leave my PS3 on its auto settings with them all ticked. some games will not run in 1080p/i unless they are the only settings ticked, but if a game does not support 1080i/p then it will go back to 576i.

 

best to just let the PS3 do its own thing and sort it out for you.
