I just tend to cancel the Auto OS check each time now. It's certainly concerning though, the PS3 is not a good machine to go from Hot with cooling to Hot with no cooling in an instant.
Not to add to the Conspiracy but.. I haven't had one lock up or game stutter after installing 4.00. All my games run fine apart from ( Dead Island ) but thats known to have issues.
Yet Five people i know that have Skyrim and have updated are getting lock up problems and having to Hard Reset their consoles.

Has anyone read this post on FW.4.00 on NeoGaf Forums a lot of people I having issue with it I reckon the freezes are because of both FW 4.00 & Skyrim 1.2.
The Skyrim patch causing game to crash and FW 4.00 corrupted files checker causing lost of save/data.
Was Skyrims 1.2 patch released before FW 4.00. Hopefully Sony are looking into this now.
Surprised Skyrim got released on PS3 it its state show some company are just in in for the money.

Same problem here, had my PS3 freeze a few times this week and never usually have a freeze whilst in game but its happened more times this week than in the past 4years iv had my ps3, i put it down to coincidence but now iv seen this thread im not quite sure now.
Hopefully new update will be out soon to resolve this.
PS3 Slim for me btw.

I did suspect a conflict so to speak between the 2 updates, but after Skyrim froze I deleted all the game data and patches intending on not playing it until its fixed. But I still had freezes afterwards with one (Alice) resulting in my second corrupted save file. Battlefield 3 was the 3rd freeze in such a short period of time but playing online I had nothing to lose.
Still, there is a problem, but I doubt its the Skyrim update as people are having the XMB freeze in the menus etc.

Mine is also dead now. After a timed auto update. Had hardly played on it all week either.
