Wrong forum category.
But I'd say don't worry about unplugging it, standby is fine.
It's really not worth it turning everything off like that.
Hell I know this guy who just leaves his stuff on all the time, seems to work out for him.

In standby your PS3 will still consume power, and your father's money... The best way to turn off a PS3 is to unplug it... Then you don't have fire risk... you save the Envioroment extra carbon footprint, and you save your father some money.... Why not? HAHA (^ω^)

hey hey
if your that paranoid about the cost then dont even play the console. its around £7 per year to leave it in standby.
if your paranoid about saving the planet then you should try to do something about it. maybe you could limit your gameplay to an hour a day.
there are so many more ways to save energy and to save the planet that switching off instead of standby unfortunatly these all involve real change and often considerable lifestyle choices.
as to the power surges to switch on a device compared to leaving it in standby i dont think anyone has measured the specific usage. the power on cycle is rather small and most electrical devices power up to standby mode anyway.
modern consumer electricals are considered to be getting alot better and manufacturers have been taking various steps to ensure more energy efficiency. its just a shame that A rated appliances are typically more expensive.

I hardly use it... I don't drive, I use public transport... And I help out where I can... I also turn everything off as much as possible... I also hardly use lights at night... like now

It makes little or no difference. If anything leaving it on in standby is good for long-term relability, as it does not get the PSU turn-on surges.
