Soul Calibur IV better than V?

Hi there!

I'm an onwner of a PS3 and a massive fighting games fan. i'm a casual gamer but i love my games very much.

One franchise that i like is the Soul Calibur series. since the new one is out i'd like to ask some questions please.

The reviews (so far) of SCV is that it is actually worse than the previous game. issues such as having only 1 guest character, a "lame" single-player mode, a weak story mode which is set 17 years after SCIV and in turn revolves around an unnecessary character (that son of Sophitia i think).

A notable review from IGN stated that this is the weakest single-player game of the Soul series.

I had SCIV before but had to sell it for money reasons. but i'm beginning to like it again.

What do you think guys? which one is better in terms of excellent single player mode, a tight & robust story mode (complete with character intro & ending), character creation and modes that are really not required in there like similar to Arena mode in Tekken.

which one has your vote?

[ Edited ]

I read those reviews and wasn't impressed with the results myself. I think I had the second one on PS1 and loved the game, along with Tekken.

Bought number lV and hated it. I was going to get the latest but don't think I'll bother now.

Re: Soul Calibur IV better than V?

I have had almost all Soul Calibur games since the days of the PS2 and i think the best in the series is so far Soul Calibur II followed by the original game. they kind of experimented on the 3rd and the 4th was i think not too bad.

Re: Soul Calibur IV better than V?

Here's what I wrote in my facebook clan page :

I wasn't terribly excited about it to be honest but knew deep down I'd get it anyway.

I'm glad I did. One day in & I Reckon I've spent at least half my time in the custom character options, I've successfully managed to recreate my PS2 character & the choice of attire has no effect on skills. You can even view your creation & take a screen cap through the XMB.

Story mode's ok, it chooses the character automatically so it forces you to try the different fighting styles. Cutscenes are replaced for the most part with pencil sketches & text. At first it feels like a bit of a cop out but you soon realise that their time was better spent elsewhere. There's the obligatory arcade, vs & training mode, no surprises there & there's a quick match option which pits you against other users' uploaded characters. It analyses their style, most used techniques & their stats. End result: A fairly convincing fight against what's basically an AI data ghost. Nice touch for a pick up & play option. Finally a legendary mode which is awarded for finishing the other modes. It's basically just super hard mode.

Online you get Ranked matches, self explanatory. Player matches, a casual lobby for you & 5 friends & finally the global Colosseo, a huge lobby for matchmaking.

All in all a fine game considering it was put together due to popular demand & online petitions.

If only I could remember how to play it.
