Stolen Playstations

We had a breaking on Wednesday 30th Jan. and the playstion was stolen along with various other electronic gizmos. :xCry: Can anyone tell me if the PS3 has it's own unique serial number through which it could be traced? My son seems to thik they have. I would be very grateful if someone out there could answer this for me. Many thanks. :smileywink:

Re: Stolen Playstations

Sorry to hear that bad news :smileysad:

Your son is correct the PS3s have unique serial numbers. Even so, I hope you are insured - I doubt you'll see it again.

Good luck

Re: Stolen Playstations

it does have n option the register itself online.. but whether it'll help is anyones guess.. i'm thinking probably not.. gee here's an idea.. how about if your ps3 is network ready making the unit unusable if it sees a different MAC address than the one it usually connects with.. put.. i dunno a password on it so that if it changes legitimately you can over ride it.. how about if it doesn't get the correct password it plays like normal but screams to.. oooh lets say.. the police.. or sony.. or someone who can track it.. jesus these people (sony, warner, Record Industry Ass. of America et al) can and will track users downloading illegal tunes but won't help the bloody consumer.. why?? cos there's no margin in it is bloody why... someone's illegally ripping of a 49p track from them and they scream blue bloody murder, saying it's the end of world as we know it.. but someone steals from one of their customers and they do **** all.. cos the scrote who now has your 400 quid will still buy the games.. gits..

Re: Stolen Playstations

You should make a note of the serial numbers of all new equipment you buy as it can be a life saver in times like this and for warranty claims and also the insurance company will want it to help verify you owned one in the first place.

Re: Stolen Playstations

I dunno if this is possible but when you login sony must notice that and have a recordd or you data surely so you could possiblely ask them to keep an eye to see where your enique data logs on next. Then it could be traced via the IP address. Note I'm mearly guessing as i'm sure sony record or have data of every ps3 users login stuff anyway.

Re: Stolen Playstations

DO you still have the box it came in, because that would have a Serial number. Then speak with Sony to get your account password changed, because if you have a Credit Card associated with the PS3 and the userid automatically logs in, then they could buy stuff on your PS3 PSN because it works automatically.

Also, speak to Sony to see if they can trace your PS3 when it gets used, because you may be able to track it down that way. If Sony can track what you do online with the PS3, they can track where the PS3 is next used online, if it's used online.

Worth a shot. But still check the box for serial number.

Should be made bloody mandatory  ok so you can claim off your insurance but putting the basts away (fat chance in this country, slap on the wrist anyone) or even putting them off stealing your stuff would help.. who the hell wants to pay higher insurance premiums every year??
