Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

MW2 is listed in the 3d section on the store.

I have 3d and MW2 but there is no option for 3d.

Is this a mistake or is there a dlc pack that enables 3d?

Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

It's probably a mistake petrolhead, the only COD with 3D support is Black Ops.

@ rancidpunk - Give COE, God of War volume 2, De Blob 2 and Motorstorm Apoc a go.

I've just been reading through some previous posts regarding getting a 3dtv.

Do some homework on your 3d tv.

Fact.

There are many problems with Sony, Samsung and ever more so with LG 3d tv's.

Crosstalk (ghosting) is a major problem, passive 3d tv's suffer badly from crosstalk and display at 50% of the resolution of active at present.

If your going to spend your money look out for a Panasonic 3d tv, even look on Ebay for refurbished VT or GT 3d tv's, they simply are better than the other makes.

There's a reason why you always see  a Panasonic 3dtv being shown of in Comet etc, it's because they are the best.

Samsung are getting much better (8000 series) better but the best is still Panasonic.

Now I know many will disgree as they have 2k spent on their new non Panasonic 3dtv but you just can't beat them at present. Especially for gaming (ie, fast moving images).

If it's your money, try and get the best available. It'll be worth it.

The passive crosstalk fact of yours is news to me, I thought since the TV was doing the gruntwork instead of two devices running in synch (active) it was far, far less of an issue.

As for the pannys, I own a Sony active set and would agree, most others on this forum would too and have for a long time.

Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

Well if it means anything, I just got myself a Panasonic Vierra 32" whateveritwascalled. (TKL32DT3OB, maybe?) and a pair of active shutter rechargeable batteries. Having tried it in store versus a LG passive set at another store, I preffered active 3D. I was close to getting a Sony set, but this Panasonic one was on sale from the nearest Panasonic store. And to be honest, it did look slightly better, but barely... You are getting fantastic 3D and 2D visuals either way (the "Panny" set also converts 2D - 3D in addition to native 3D)

But yeah that was my question actually. What is the difference between converting the 2D version of Harry Potter to 3D, against watching the actual 3D disc? o.o

There really is no contest between the 'on the fly' conversion and watching a 3D BR.

One simulates an effect while the other displays it as intended (unless of course it's a dodgy post process jobby like 'Thor' which I'd avoid).

Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

I did a lot of research before buying a Samsung 46" LED 3d tv (8000 series). Its active and having tried numerous sets of both active and passive, passive is like the war between vhs and betamax (showing my age). Active wins easily.
I am loving my 3d gaming. Have Ratchet and Clank all 4 one and Uncharted 3 at the moment. What else do you recommend?
Any good 3d driving games out there?

Why does there need to be some sort of forum rivalry whenever there are two 'competing' formats?

I'd hazard a guess that most people like me who bought into active over passive knew the price of the glasses beforehand, thus budgeting for enough glasses for those who use the TV.

I personally didn't mind the extra expense for the better resolution, with my Panasonic also doing a good job of virtually eliminating the crosstalk associated with active sets. It's each to their own though, as long we all enjoy our 3d experience then all is fine

TBH there is no argument at the moment.

And yeah, the active glasses cost 50 quid but they are now less than half the price they were a year ago. Panasonic 3d2me £129.99, the new version 3d3me is available for <£60. They weigh 29 grams I think.

But, you don't actually need the original equipment glasses.

I purchased a pair for £35 off ebay and they worked the same as the £129.99 Panny glasses. You can get them even cheaper if you hunt around.

So forget the pretend cost superiority bull, it's just making a choice of getting the better quality 3d tv. And let's all just get over this anyway, 99% of the time it'll be used as a 2d tv anyway. The Panasonic's are rather fantastic as a 2d tv as well.

Passive sets display at 50% of the resolution of a full HD active 3d tv. Do you not realise this?

The active tv's from Panasonic can be found for a price similar to the passive sets, even get last years model, it'll still be miles better than a passive set.

Great 3d games I have:-

Killzone 3

Call of Duty Black ops.

Avatar

Resistance 3

Enslaved, odyssey to the west - you need to get the UK version and download the Pigsy DLC, you get 3d then for the whole game.

Uncharted 3

Crysis 2

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_3D_PlayStation_3_games

There are now quite a few available.

I understand that Wipeout is especially impressive in 3d.

Gran Turismo 5 is 3d and £15 in stores atm.

2d to 3d, bah, there all crap at doing it. Stick to BR 3d or 3d games.

PS, I also have a 360 and got Gears 3 for the 3d.

Once I sussed out how to get it working it was pretty good.
