Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

a quick question about black ops, the sterescoping settings state active shutter yet it works fine with passive, WHY have they put it in the menu as active shutter stereoscopic 3D.

Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

I'd guess because passive tech was in it's early infancy when Black Ops was released and they either didn't consider noting it or weren't aware it existed at that point.

Ladies and gentlemen we have a new contender for best 3D effect in an unlikely little game called De Blob 2.

Try it, it's awesome! Not a bad little game either, it's a bit like Super Mario Sunshine.

I didn't even know De Blob 2 supported 3D, but it's one of those games I made a mental "get this when the price drops" note about after viewing some game play videos from it (it looked like fun (in a slightly crazy way), and the music made me giggle). An order has been placed, but the retailer I use doesn't have any copies remaining in stock, and there's no date for when they'll get more copies (which is sometimes bad news).

Though I got AC:R today, and I've just been playing it a bit. The 3D effect is okay so far, but I wouldn't compare it to God of War or Child of Eden. I would definitelty not agree with the reviewer quoted earlier in this thread who thought it was the best 3D yet.

That said, the AC games really should be played in 3D; looking out over buildings and seeing real depth is quite fantastic.

Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

How do the graphics hold up in AC?

De Blob 2 is the strangest thing in 3D. It's like peering in to a little world that disappears off into the distance while foreground objects and the little flying cars float about right in your face. After the initial wow factor I had to turn the effect down (I ramped it up to 10) as it's actually quite distracting.

Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

The graphics in AC:R are very good. There's a section in the very beginning of the game where you run around during a minor snow storm in a mountain area. It's quite beautiful, they managed to convey a really cold feeling. I like the graphics in all the AC games, but AC:R is slightly better than the others. (Disclaimer: I haven't played much of it -- but from what I've seen so far). Though it seems that the movie sequences aren't 3D (specifically referring to those which aren't pre-prendered; the pre-rendered ones are slightly (but not much) more understandable if they aren't in 3D).

I just found the first instance where buying a game on Playstation Store is actually cheaper than buying it from my regular retailer. So I cancelled De Blob 2, and am now downloading it from PS Store.

I believe De Blob 2 support Move? Did you try it? Is it okay (as in "intuitive")?

I haven't tried it with Move yet zinep though I've read it works well using it. I'd guess you've given it a spin by now, how did you find the 3D?

Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

First of all -- what a wonderfully charming little game; I fell in love with it immediately. If we could get all world leaders to play De Blob 2, we would have no more wars. It just makes you happy. :smileyhappy:

The Move controller work perfectly; very nice implementation.

But most noteworthy is the 3D; it's truly amazing.

The maximum 3D strength is a little but much, as you said. It's interesting though that they allow you to turn up the 3D so much that it becomes impractical (sort of like turning up an amp to maximum volume). I'm used to just setting the 3D strength to maximum, but in De Blob it started feeling like someone was trying to do subliminal brain surgery on me after a while, and I actually started feeling a little queasy (I've read about it happening, but I haven't felt it myself -- until now). Turning the 3D strength down a little took away the unpleasantness, but the 3D effect was no less amazing.

Definitely my new favorite game with regards to the 3D. Add to it the excellent Move support, fun gameplay and the charming style, and we have ourselves a game I would definitely recommend.

It's somewhat odd that Sony hasn't made more noise about some games; like De Blob 2 and Child of Eden. I guess it could be because they aren't exclusive titles -- but it's too bad, because these games are fantastic at showcasing the PS3 technologies Sony want to get people hyped up about.

Re: The 3D Gaming Discussion Thread!

Just bought a 3d tv myself, so glad I found this thread!
Really tempted to try De Blob 2 now after reading it though!

Very impressed by SSHD and Wipeout. Both look and play great in 3D.
Got Black Ops and Batman but not tried either in 3D yet.

Black Ops is ok in 3D and batman is underwhelming to say the least. Some love that subtle depth effect but I like it a fair bit more pronounced.
