The Most technically challenging game ever

Hey guys,

What is the one ps game that you have played that has challenged you to your limits?

A game that has made you think beyond what you would have expected before you immersed yourself into it. :Samurai:

ps: need some tips to test my gaming capabilities!!

Please use plain text.

Re: The Most technically challenging game ever

The game I played almost exclusively for at least a year - Wipeout HD.

I gave new meaning to the phrase "Playstation Thumb", almost to the extent that my left thumb nail began to fall off form hours of using the D-Pad to do Barrel Rolls.

I wanted to get the best possible times worldwide in Speed lap and Time trial for every track and each of the 4 speed classes.

At the time [around mid  2009 to early 2010], out of the 128 different records I had, around 40 were in the top 10, around another 40 were in the top 50 and the rest either in the top 100-150.

It takes real dedication to get good at any Wipeout game, the main element is to learn the tracks like the back of your hand, almost so you could race them blindfolded.

That sounds like a lot of commitment blackwiggle!

I've never been able to commit to one game like that to get that good. Competent at many, master of none :smileyvery-happy:

Here's a few tips for getting really good at Wipeout quickly.

1] Learn the tracks - sounds simple, and it is, but to really know a tracks is to have done a couple of thousand laps of it over the 4 speed classes.

The way Studio Liverpool designed the tracks, you'll find that each speed class can have a different way of getting the fastest time on the same track...It's all in the bumps and humps on the tracks..Flash speed has the most barrel roll opportunities for instance.

2] Don't use pilot assist, it slows you down....you can't take as close lines to the walls etc as you can without it...plus it ping-pongs you about the track.

You should only use it to learn a track well enough [in racebox - speed lap]  until you can complete that track without destroying yourself from lack of shield energy in a Time Trial, at the same speed class.

3] AIR BRAKES - when you get to a certain skill level you can find yourself plateauing and not getting any faster, this is when you should start changing the sensitivity of the air brakes [A lower percentage = more sensitive in HD/FURY]..Try 70%, from default as a starting place, then watch your times fall big time.

4] Learn to SIDE SHIFT - this a quick double tap of a air brake that moves you craft one ship width to the side, a must learn for positioning your craft around very tight hairpins, and also for getting the fastest line, then lining yourself up for a hump/bump so you can do a barrel roll.

Also good for avoiding mines and bombs.

OT: You can actually BEAT ZICO with NO Barrel Rolls- only using side shifts.

If you think you are getting [or are already] reasonably good at Wipeout HD/FURY and would like some online action.

Well check this link at the Wipeoutzone for Aus/NZ pilots to race on Saturdays.

Unfortunately, since the "Crossplay function " with 2048 came about, viewing  "Players Met" is currently unavailable while playing HD/FURY online - a BIG pain.

So it's adding people to your friends list, or otherwise, get invited into a wipeoutzone  chatroom.

GOOD NEWS

Iv'e ben busy playing "Other games" SHOCK - HORROR.

But can report after recently trying online "Members met" is now working again with Wipeout HD.

Want a different sort of CHALLENGE?

Then try playing "Shadow of the Colossus"

Try getting the Platinum for that!

Easy enough to beat the 15 or so Colossi first time around, but doing it again against the clock in "Time Trial Mode" is a different matter.

Now that's A REAL CHALLENGE.

Good luck!

Hmm battling 15 colossi and under a time limit does sound like a major challenge.

Have to give this one a go for sure .

Re: The Most technically challenging game ever

Here's one...

The original Splinter Cell on PS2 (not the HD PS3 version ported)... from memory it didn't have the game save options the PC remaster has... You could only save at 3 or 4 parts of each level, and if I remember correctly there was no quicksave option... although I think you could reload checkpoints..

Anyway... the challenge here is NO KILLs... NO DETECTIONS (which in turn also means no alarms)... There is one key moment with the head lapdog where you will be detected, but it is possible to get past this section without shooting anyone... and there is one spoiler moment where you have to shoot someone dead... but other than that, the above rules apply... for extra challenge you can self enforce the minimum number of KO's as possible...
