They said they would support it for at least 10 years!

Ps1 was supported for about 7 years

The ps2 is still suported in some places to a small degree 11 years later

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

That's how long they intend to support the machine.

Re: The PS4 talk is scaring me...

Exactly, doesn't mean they can't have another machine out whilst supporting the PS3, much like the relationship between the PS2 and PS3 a few years ago.

Re: The PS4 talk is scaring me...

dont worry i cant see ps4 being a massive success im sure a lot of people wont want to buy the 1st generation ps4 and get burnt like many did with ps3 ylod issues, i think ps3 will have a few more years left in it yet. if they make ps4 pay to play online im pretty sure that would put many purchasers off too. we will see what happens.

Re: The PS4 talk is scaring me...

im not sure who is coming up with the ideas at sony but the psp has pretty much been a flop, the ps3 was launched with a lack of memory and no way of upgrading it, im pretty sure in this economic climate the vita wont do that well and because of the problems of ylod with ps3 and sonys lack of support or commitment to accept responsibility for those issues, ps4 will have a slow take off at launch. unfortunately ps3 ylod issues have damaged sonys reputation for reliability and build quality

Re: The PS4 talk is scaring me...

Ok I'm going to post my thoughts not because I'm afraid of the PS4's release, I'm one of those who sat back and waited on actually getting a PS3 namely because I wanted the PS2 support before I did, as it turns out I simply got bored of waiting and a little over 18 months ago I forked out for my PS3, a move that was difficult to do with a family to support and my own issues lol.

However having got my hands on a PS3 the rumours of a PS4 being put into development start sneaking up on me and I think typical I buy the PS3 and they upgrade the technology again, didn't have this with the PS2 as I got my PS2 on launch day in the UK, bad idea and several hours of waiting but I had the PS2 from day 1. Back then I was far less stupid with money and no wife, girlfriend children to speak of lol. Not that I blame them for the way things have turned out.

Ok so now the rumours of PS4 are bouncing around and I sit and I think well actually the true potential of the PS3 is yet to be tapped plus some of the tech is opened ended meaning Sony can re write the firmware internally via system updates etc. Granted eventually this is going to be extended but then I think it took Sony a long while to actually begin making money out PS3 because the blue ray drives were costing them so much to begin with, these things are still the most expensive component to repair, so now the PS3 is gaining market position it would be unwise for Sony to jeopardise their own placing, they know even with WII-U & an XBOX competitor they would still have a solid market place to target, plus I doubt the other consoles could provide the same as PS3. To gain the same capabilities as PSN on Jukebox you have to get XBOX Live, not sure on WII-U online presence as I've never used one, Also SOny have just introduced Move and I heard they have placed patents for BIOMETRIC Scanning tech,

http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/sony-patent-points-to-biometric-feedback-devices-for-gaming/

How much truth I don't know and it's probably for future fitness packages, or a challenger to the XBOX Kinnect Sensors, anyhow all this points to the fact that they are focusing on developing the PS3 tech.

Of course I'm not daft enough to believe that somewhere Sony have a team working on the PS4 ready for when the time is right, development of the PS4 began during the PS3 development schedule as they rule certain things to be "too advanced" they'd be put aside for the next generation.

I do however believe if they fixed the browser and added more video codec formats, just improve on what we have then the PS3 can forge ahead regardless of competition. Also remember Sony took a HUGE hit in the PSN outage earlier this year, that is money they can simply recoup, it's going to take time for them to recover solidly what was lost, to them it's pocket change but to developers it probably hurt them a lot.

So I recon we still have 2 or three years before the rumours turn to fact and we gain a definate release schedule for the PS4, I'm not worried intrigued but not worried, only lets hope when the PS4 arrives we can take our PS3 games with us to the new Sony console?!

Nothing worse than climbing the ladder of success only to realise its against the wrong wall.

Re: The PS4 talk is scaring me...

Sony announced at a shareholders meeting that they would not be as heavily supporting the PS4 as they did with the PS3.

This is what scares me, and may lead to my next console being a big, ugly, box.

The only thing Sony does well is hardware, so with the next console having less hardware longevity as the PS2 and PS3 do this is yet another stake in the heart of an old Vampire sucking our blood until they die completely.

Sony doesnt give as much as it used to, now everything is based off of what they can take away while losing as few customers as possible or while increasing profits enough to compensate for all the lost customers.

You lost me at 3 activation removal.

I don't quite follow what that means and do you have any kind of source for that piece of information?

Re: The PS4 talk is scaring me...

I keep meaning to ignore these threads anyway. Just enjoy the console you've got now. She's plenty of life in her yet even if a new one comes out within the next 3 years! :smileyhappy:
