No error message/advisory message is generated, instead the cursor changes into a writing tool icon, then just blinks at me! This is exactly what happens when I try to sign on to my twitter account. I have to go round the main page by pressing the SIGN IN button underneath & sign in the FOGOTTON YOUR USERNAME/PASSWORD page. The trouble is, many fields I might need to type in to, don't have a backup text-entry field system. I was redirected from my thread to your thread. It still doesn't work WITH or WITHOUT Javascript turned on! What would really be helpful, is if I could actually have a conversation with someone about it. I have got nowhere fast with the PS3 phone helpdesk on this problem; infact Sony want me to send my PS3 back to them! You're never allowed to speak to anyone who has technical knowlege - they're always hidden away like Repunzal in her tower! And that's not just Sony - that's all computer firms I find!
Yeah, there appear to be several issues there, but I did find I could log in via the "Sign in" link, in the top-right corner of an actual Twitter page, e.g. for PlayStation.
On the Twitter home page, with a screen resolution of 720p, I had the same issue you described, where the virtual keyboard doesn't appear. At 1080p or 1080i it worked fine, as long as I clicked beyond the grey "Username or email" and "Password" text.

Thankyou very much for your reply, not being too technically versed I had trouble emulating what you were able to achieve.
Firstly, I was not able to find the Playstation on Twitter page you mention with the sign-in link in the top right-hand corner, would you be so kind as to say/provide a link of where you mean.
Secondly, would you please say how you changed the resolution from 720 to 1080 and 1080i as I wasn't sure how to accomplish this or even whether it was something I needed to do on my TV, Playstation or both. I am pleased you were able to replicate the problem, at least this shows this is a generic problem with the Playstation system not just with my Playstation.
Finally, do you have any solutions for the 'Repunzal in her tower' factor - I don't want any more 'reference numbers' and a thankyou for the feedback that is all you get from their supposed 'helpline'. What I would really like is someone technically minded who will let me speak to them on a phone!

Assuming you're not already signed in, you should see the "Sign In" link on any Twitter page for a specific Twitter user, such as your own page and for PlayStation etc.
Your PS3 has probably defaulted to the maximum resolution supported by your TV (is your TV supposed to support Full/True (1080p) HD? If so, are you using a HDMI cable?). You change the PS3 output resolution using Settings, Display Settings, Video Output Settings of the XMB (the PS3's menu system). When you change the resolution, the PS3 starts a thirty second countdown, to allow for where your TV doesn't support the selected resolution (on reaching zero, it reverts to the previous setting). I'm sure I can answer any further questions you have on this.
With regards to PS3 technical support in general, PS3 browser aside (not presently used by many of PS3 owners - feel free to post any future browser questions to this thread), most issues encountered by PS3 owners have probably been covered on this forum, so your best bet is to do a thorough search of the forum, to see if someone else has encountered the issue and if not, post a new message as there is a good chance someone will be willing to help.

Well, it's been just over two months since Sony replaced the PS3's web browser with a brand new one, so hopefully they will be releasing an update any time now to address the various "teething" problems (as outlined in this thread).
If in fact no one at Sony has been working on the browser, I would be willing to have a go at fixing the browser myself (as I indicated in Jeff Rigby's Neogaf browser thead). My aim would be to fix all possible bugs, improve performance and "bomb proof" the browser (should never hang console etc, although Flash induced crashes may be impossible to prevent). If a PS3 dev kit requires a desktop PC (comes in the form of a PCI card etc), that could be tricky as I only have my trusty ThinkPad laptop.
I contacted IMDB to see if they would be willing to default to the "Desktop" view, as this has always displayed perfectly in the browser, but I only got an automated response. Sony may have better luck and I noticed today that Wikipedia is now defaulting to the Desktop view, so if this was in response to a request from Sony
I note the Adobe Flash based forum magazine essentially works o.k. in the browser, even if it can hang the console (see my post in the subject). It looks like this could be an issue with Flash itself as it crashes Chrome on Google TV if you try to turn pages in zoomed mode (uses Flash 10,x, but not latest version). If I try this in Chrome on my PC, it doesn't crash, so it could be fixed in the very latest version of Flash or on both PS3 and Google TV, lack of memory causes the issue.

i seriously hope sony have plans to upgrade the browser (or accept your offer to do it for them) tribble6.
i use the ps3 browser all the time & it certainly has 'teething' problems, some of which have recently
re-surfaced for me, having thought they were a thing of the past

Your cactus avatar is possibly quite apt as I feel like we're the last two residents of a long deserted ghost town (tumbleweed blows by)
.
To bring the town (browser) back to life would not only require a "kick ass" browser, but probably also support for Flash 10.x (or even version 11), which would bring with it 720p YouTube videos.
Well, my offer to Sony was actually to supply the "kick ass" part of the equation for free ($0.00). Sony would just need to lend me a PS3 dev kit and provide me with all the technical info I would need to get started, including access to all the existing source code etc. Assuming I was successful, I certainly wouldn't turn down any PSN goodies from Sony (hint), but the prospect of harnessing all the PS3's power (6 available SPE's etc) for the browser is enticement enough (I would hope Sony would make available full access to all available memory (outside of another app), which really should be ample (200 MB+, plus virtual memory) and access to the hardware accelerated graphics library).
Given that I spent over a man year on the PS3 Bookmarklet for -$150 (it cost me to host the web site and no one used my Amazon advert link to order any goodies
), which was by no means a trivial project (to keep the standard YouTube site working in the original browser), I certainly have the tenacity for such a project and probably the technical skill (I've been programming professionally since 1988, for DOS, Windows and Web).
If a moderator doesn't at least pass on my offer to Sony that would be somewhat of a tragedy as having a browser the PS3 could be proud of would certainly do Sony's current financial situation no harm.

Well thats a stroke of luck, I was just about to hunt out this thread to ask a question and there it was, front page.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is noticing more frequent instability and freezing issues over the past few weeks? After the update I got the crashes down to about once a week but the past few weeks I've had loads (7 times tonight!!!)
I know theres been no firmware changes so I dont know whether to put it down to me trying to do stuff too fast now I'm used to the new limitations (pushing my luck with dogy tech lol) or if its a more widespread issue thats creeping in with the browser.
And you're not the only ones who care about the browser but I guess theres only so many times you can complain about it before it feels like you're talking to yourself, banging your head against the brick wall that is Sony's communication policy. Even the offer of free help doesn't seem to interest them. Pretty sad really, all that potential and they cant be bothered enough to even acknowledge it.
I would have loved you to have a crack at fixing the browser Tribble. A decent browser would be worth paying for, but it seems even the thought of cash isn't enough to make Sony care (still got enough resources to waste faffing about making that new "Nasne" TV thing though???)
I kinda hate unfullfilled potential ...and a lack of ambition.
.....Oh well, that'll be the wonderful world of Sony.
